Simon Cowell's high-profile career as a music producer and talent show mogul has been going strong for more than two decades. As the famous Brit recently shared, the intense work ethic required by that level of success took a toll on his health.
He confesses to years of working all through the night and not sleeping until 8 AM. Along with poor sleep habits, Simon was under a great deal of stress because of the competitive nature of the entertainment industry. Becoming a father gave him the wake-up call he needed to change his lifestyle.
Though most people can't relate to Simon's level of success, high stress and poor sleeping habits are common problems. Having a poor work-life balance is one of the side effects of modern life. With the advent of smartphones, workers are easily accessible day and night. Simon Cowell told ITV per Express:
"I was like a vampire. For years I would not go to bed until eight in the morning. It was a wake-up call. I think stress, if you want my honest opinion, is the biggest killer of all."

According to the NHS, poor sleeping habits can lead to serious conditions like heart disease, obesity, and diabetes.
The entertainer wised up and shifted away from working all night. Simon is also staying healthy by changing his diet and sleeping habits. He also adds that becoming a father also made him change overhaul his lifestyle.
“I just suddenly realised my hours, what I was eating had to change. I now go to sleep at 10, I now have breakfast at 8:30. It’s almost like a complete reversal, he told ITV per Express.
There's a good reason Simon's transformation focused on overhauling his diet. Eating nutritious foods is vital for managing stress and having good sleeping habits. The National Sleep Foundation suggests sharply reducing low-quality carbs like white bread, sugary baked goods, and refined rice or pasta.
These foods won't give you the nutrition you need, and they can also reduce the brain's serotonin levels. Serotonin is key to helping the body relax and prepare for sleep, which means a poor diet can also lead to poor sleep.
Stick to healthy foods that can promote deeper, more restful sleep. The National Sleep Foundation recommends nuts, which contain high levels of melatonin, the sleep-friendly hormone. Another great choice is cottage cheese and other foods with lean protein. You can also get better sleep by enjoying healthy carbs like fruits, especially berries or kiwi.
