It turns out that the unfortunate man wanted to pay her back. He knew that she was wearing a shirt with a Piedmont Healthcare logo, but he did not know Tracy's name or where she lived. It took him several days to research her and find out that she was working at the Piedmont Cancer Institute.
When the man discovered this, he was even more impressed. Tracy was not just a kind stranger to him. Her entire life's work was devoted to helping patients in need. After discovering this information, the man donated $10,000 to the Piedmont Cancer Institute in Tracy's name. Tracy only discovered the donation after a member of the fundraising team called her to thank her for the donation.
Tracy had no clue what had happened. After talking to the fundraising team, she realized that the man at the grocery store had donated $10,000. By a strange twist of fate, she had been lucky enough to wear one of the Piedmont shirts when she was at the grocery store. Because of her shirt, he found out where she worked and donated a large sum to the cause.
In the video, ABC news interviewed Tracy. She talked about how excited she was to see one random act of kindness turn into something so humongous. Tracy only wanted to help an unlucky stranger out, but her kind gesture ended up helping every cancer patient at the institute. Now, the $10,000 donation will be a part of the Dana G. Smith Cancer Assistance Endowment.
