Shania Twain Posed Nude To Face Her Fear Of Going 'To The Beach In A Bathing Suit' As A Child

Shania Twain is a Canadian singer and songwriter who has sold over 100 million records throughout her career. This makes her the best-selling female country music artist of all time and one of the top-selling artists in music history. She has come to be known as the "Queen of Country Pop" and is best known for her songs "Man, I Feel Like a Woman" and "Any Man of Mine." The singer won a Grammy Award for the latter song.

In 2008, everyone was shocked when her then-husband, Robert Lange, cheated on her with her secretary, Marie-Anne Thiébaud. Marie-Anne was married to Frédéric Thiébaud at that time. And in a stunning turn of events, Twain and Frederic later tied the knot together in 2011 in Puerto Rico.

Following the cheating scandal, Twain promptly dumped Lange. He made some far-fetched statements about the breakup, such as, "It's literally just a growing apart, that's all." They formally divorced in 2010. The Thiébauds also divorced as a consequence of the affair.

Frédéric and Twain have now been married for over a decade. The couple officially dated in 2009 and got married in Rincon, Puerto Rico, on New Year's Day in 2011. Her happy marriage boosted her confidence, and she became happier with herself as she introduced her new era with bold looks and her own unique fashion sense. 

Since becoming more confident about herself, Twain has discovered more about herself, even the things she did not think she would be doing – take posing nude for a photo shoot as an example. Twain started in the industry in 1995. She produced songs like "You're Still The One I Love" and "Forever And For Always." Back then, her fashion sense could be likened to typical country girl singers decked out in flannel and jeans, partnered with boots and her iconic brunette locks. 

In an interview with Extra, Twain was candid about her feelings of self-doubt when she was younger. 

"I've been very shy about my body from a very young age… to the point where I would not go to the beach in a bathing suit… I would say probably really tortured by it from the age of 10," she recalled. 

She also told The Mirror in another interview that there was even a point where she turned off the lights so that she could not see the "imperfections" on her body. 

Since she was performing at the young age of 8 years old, Twain had become self-conscious about how she looked, even recalling a particularly personal moment when she was still a teenager, when she was forced to deal with the idea of puberty. 

"When I was a teenager, my boobs got so big," Twain shared. "I could not stop them from bouncing, so I had to strap them down and wear two bras and loose clothing. I just did not want these boobs." 

But when she reached 30 years old, Twain finally realized that she could only get the freedom she wanted if she would let herself. 

"I was 30 when I had my first radio hit… In that video, I'm braless, I'm allowing the platform of stepping out of my daily self into this world of video-making and making decisions that give me this freedom to, like, do things I wouldn't normally do in my daily life," she told Extra. 

In 2023, Twain had a different sense of fashion. Ditching the flannels and leather jackets, the 57-year-old singer can now even pose naked, specifically on her "Waking Up Dreaming" cover art. 

"I want to be able to stand, but go, 'Yes, I am a woman that is comfortable in her own skin. It's not like I'm trying to show my nakedness to the world, I'm trying to show that confidence in your own nakedness is necessary," Twain explained to Extra about her controversial cover art. 

Because of her bold and confident move to pose nude in a photoshoot, the country-pop singer had some realizations that her younger, doubtful self would probably never think about. 

"It meant, can I look at myself in the mirror with the lights on? Now, I'm really looking at myself and going, 'Okay, look, things are sagging… All kinds of things that, you know, I don't want to really show off," she told the outlet. 

Now proud and a champion for body positivity and self-expression, Twain became candid on her realizations and even offered a piece of advice to other women. 

"I say you should look in the mirror and be fine with that. I am only going to get older and saggier — if I hate myself now, then what state am I going to be in five or 10 years?" she revealed to The Mirror. 

Aside from her confidently beautiful nude photo shoot, Twain told The Sun in September 2022 that she "got a very busy few years ahead" of her, including "sorts of things" that she could not talk about at the time.

"All sorts of things are in the pipeline. I'm writing songs all the time, and the Netflix documentary has been a huge talking point in my life and career," she admitted.
