Seven Methods To Follow In Order To Live A Beautiful Life

Jun 15, 2021

Across the world, every person is looking for the same thing: happiness that can be cultivated with little to no effort. While external circumstances dictate a lot of how we feel, there are some people who find happiness in everything despite the challenges they face in their life. It goes along with the saying, "Happiness is not a destination but a way of life."

Happiness need not be tied to external things, such as material things and money. While money does make life easier for a lot of people, it does not necessarily guarantee absolute happiness. People also tie their state of joy to people, such as a partner or a friend, but this can be really dangerous as well. The main thing that people who are able to find happiness in every situation learn is that their source of joy is within themselves.

One of the most famous quotes from the iconic Harry Potter book series is from Albus Dumbledore, who said "Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if only one remembers to turn on the light." The responsibility of creating and keeping our own light depends only on us, but not many people remember this. This list of simple techniques can help you understand how to create a more beautiful life.

1. Living In The Moment

Over the last few years, studies have been showing the benefits of being in the present moment completely through exercises like mindfulness and meditation. Setting out at least 5 to 10 minutes a day to give time to your thoughts helps to get in touch with yourself once again and find your inner strength.

As spiritualist Eckhart Tolle said, "Unease, anxiety, tension, stress, worry—all forms of fear—are caused by too much future, and not enough presence. Guilt, regret, resentment, grievances, sadness, bitterness, and all forms of non-forgiveness are caused by too much past, and not enough presence."

2. Positive Relationships

Human beings are social animals, which means that all of our relationships are indicators of how happy we feel in our life. There is, of course, a distinction between solitude, where we find peace even when we are alone, and being solitary, which is when we are alone in a negative way. Solitude is healthy and helps us understand ourselves better so that we can have better relationships without feeling lonely. However, avoiding people and not allowing a pathway for positive relationships can cause loneliness that can be damaging emotionally, psychologically and even physically

Ultimate Resilience UK wrote, "Connecting and spending time with the people we have positive relationships with acts as a buffer against stress and helps to build positive emotions. Those people allow us to share our successes and will celebrate them with us. And when we are in challenging times they help us to analyse our problems and find a solution.

3. Practice Gratitude

Practicing gratitude is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to ignite joy and happiness in our lives. It is, quite simply, just being thankful for all things in your life. You can choose to appreciate anything in your life, from all the wonderful people in your family to the smallest thing, such as feeling sunlight on your skin. When we find the good in everything and are thankful for it, we begin to train our brains to see the bright side of life.

Some methods that can be used for gratitude are journaling, prayers, and even just talking to a friend about the things you are thankful for. Healthline reported that some benefits of gratitude are better relationships, increased optimism, better sleep and a stronger immune system.

4. Don't Compare Yourself To Others

As President Theodore Roosevelt said, "Comparison is the thief of joy," and this saying rings true even today. Unfortunately, in our current world of social media, people are continuing to compare themselves to unrealistic standards of beauty and material goals, making them more prone to mental health issues such as anxiety and depression

By understanding that not everyone's life plan follows the same path and milestones, we can know that our lives are not less than anyone else. Gratitude can also play a large role is loving and accepting our life as it is.

5. Realistic Goals

All of us have dreams and goals, but we are setting ourselves up for failure if we create unattainable goals. For example, your goal may be to write a book, and while this isn't exactly unrealistic, you may be overwhelmed by the end goal before you even begin. By breaking down a large goal into more realistic steps, it becomes easier to reach the final goal.

Healthy Holistic Living reported that Alison Thayer says a person should “ask yourself ‘Is this realistic and can I actually attain this goal?’ If the answer is no, consider breaking the goal down into intermediate steps or modifying it all together.”

6. Practice Forgiving Yourself

Everyone makes mistakes, but learning from our errors, letting go, moving on and in the end, forgiving yourself is important when it comes to overall well-being and mental health. Forgiving yourself does not mean letting yourself off the hook and it isn't a sign of weakness either. The act of forgiveness, whether you are forgiving yourself or someone who has wronged you, also does not suggest that you have to condone what has happened.

It just means that you accept what has happened and are choosing to move past it without ruminating on it and letting it control your whole life. Self-compassion and forgiveness can make a major difference in your life in the long run, and help you live without guilt or anger bringing you down.

7. Finding A Purpose

Finally, a life filled with purpose is a life that can be lived well. Having a purpose also helps to put everything into better perspective, and helps you find meaning. A purpose is important no matter how small it is; from volunteering and tutoring to creating foundations that donate to important charities, a purpose is what gives every person a reason to wake up in the morning and make a difference in the world.
