Sean Lennon To Host Tribute Show For His Father, John, On His 80th Birthday
Sep 25, 2020
This week, Sean Ono Lennon made history by taking part in his very first interview with none other than Sir Paul McCartney himself.
The interview will be part of a documentary by BBC Radio 2, set to air in early October, which will honor Sean’s legendary dad, John Lennon.
"I look back on it now like a fan," McCartney told the BBC of meeting Sean.
"How lucky was I to meet this strange Teddy Boy off the bus, who played music like I did and we get together and boy, we complemented each other!"

The radio special will also feature McCartney playing one of the very first songs he wrote with his late bandmate, Just Fun. The song was never officially released and was written by Lennon and McCartney when they were still schoolboys.
"Eventually, we started to write slightly better songs and then enjoyed the process of learning together so much that it really took off,” McCartney said.
Helen Thomas, who is boss at BBC Radio 2, said:
"John Lennon is one of the Radio 2 audience's most popular and best-loved musicians, so we're thrilled and honored that Sean's first-ever radio program in which he talks at length about his father, alongside his brother Julian, Paul McCartney and Elton John, will be broadcast on our network."
The special will air on October 3 and October 4, just a few days before John Lennon would have turned 80 years old.
John Lennon was shot in front of his apartment in New York on December 8, 1980. The shooter, Mark David Chapman, apologized to John Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono earlier this week, for what he called a “despicable act.”
"I just want to reiterate that I'm sorry for my crime," Chapman said to the parole board at the Wende Correctional Facility in New York, according to the BBC.
"I have no excuse. This was for self-glory. I think it's the worst crime that there could be to do something to someone that's innocent."
