School Choir Performs 'I'm Gonna Love You Through It' To Teacher Fighting Breast Cancer
Oct 10, 2018
Finding out you're diagnosed with cancer can be truly devastating. The world you once knew can be turned upside down and inside out.
Mrs. Lopez was leading a rather uneventful life. She was a beloved Staten Island choir teacher. Unfortunately, she received news that she had breast cancer. The second her elementary students found out, they decided to prepare something special for her. They sang Martina McBride's "I'm Gonna Love You Through It" to Mrs. Lopez. The song is about someone fighting breast cancer.
This song really impacted Mrs. Lopez, and rightfully so. She began to cry as soon as they began to sing.

They altered the lyrics in order to make the song more fitting for their wonderful teacher. The lyrics were changed to “She said ‘I don’t think I can do this anymore,’ But we raise our voice in song and said, ‘That’s what our love is for.’”
The choir added a special touch to the performance. Each student had a pink rose and raised it in the air towards the end of the performance. Another thing they did was sing the last part of the song acapella. This was where emotions reached an all-time high for students and Mrs. Lopez. The song by itself was emotional enough, but the love and support that the children have for their teacher are apparent.
This beautiful event took place in 2015. Most people who watched the video were wondering what happened to Mrs. Lopez after the performance.
Good news is that Mrs. Lopez is doing great and has been cancer-free for three years. She is currently healthy.
