Salma Hayek Dishes On What She Uses To Retain Her Youthful Glow
Jul 28, 2023
Salma Hayek is one of the most successful and gorgeous actresses on the planet, but Hayek led a rather humble life in her native Mexico before she became famous. Having worked on her craft since the age of 18, Hayek's passion for acting eventually propelled her into the stratosphere.
Although she's at the top, she still finds time to advocate for causes that she's passionate about. She's most known for her work in combatting domestic violence against women, as well as her advocacy for immigrants and charity work in helping disadvantaged children in Mexico.
While Hayek's known to be one of the most beautiful actresses working in Hollywood, she's now in her 50s and looks rather different than in her younger years, but she's still every bit as gorgeous. These days the 56-year-old actress is still in incredible shape.
Hayek's bold characters in film transcended the way she presented herself to the paparazzi many times during her career. Not only is Hayek an accomplished actress, but she is a fashion icon and a trendsetter herself.
Dressed by some of the biggest luxury brands and clothing lines in the world, Hayek's stunning beauty and physique have made her a show-stopping force at red-carpet events and premieres.
That is why it has been incredibly important for her to maintain her beauty and youthfulness at this point in her life. The "Magic Mike" actress revealed her ultimate skincare secret in a February 2023 video to British GQ, which made perfect sense as she still looks incredibly stunning and a lot younger than her actual age.

Hayek is regarded by many media publications as one of the most beautiful faces in Hollywood. People Magazine even included her as one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world in their 1996, 2003, and 2008 lists.
Many would be shocked to know that the "Eternals" actress is already nearing 60 years old. This is because the star has managed to look younger and maintained a beautiful physique throughout the years.
In 2015, Hayek touched on the sensitive issue of using Botox in an interview with Vogue. While she didn’t condemn the use of the cosmetic procedure, she expressed her staunch refusal to indulge in the treatment. She explained:
“Listen, I never say never. Have I done it? No, still no. And I’m going to tell you why: It’s just logic. … oxygenation and circulation helps immediately rejuvenate your body when you exercise. ... If you kill the muscle, if you paralyze it and your face is not moving, this is going to affect all the other (muscles) around it. So maybe do (Botox), but wait as long as you can because you’re going to age faster with it. You’re going to look better (in the short term), but you have to do more and more and more, and the whole face is going to start falling apart!”
She said she also maintains a light makeup look when she isn't working.
"During the day, I just put on a little foundation and rub a little lipstick on my cheeks. Of course I have to get all dolled up for work and for press," she told The New York Times.
Alongside maintaining her natural beauty, the star is also embracing aging. She admitted that she has grey hair and that they don't bother her.

Aside from straying away from cosmetic enhancements, Hayek has been open to trying only a specific type of food.
"My advice is not going to help anybody. I overeat the wrong things, then I go on a diet," she shared.
However, the actress also told The New York Times in 2017 that she has tried to walk away from eating meat but, ultimately, that lifestyle wasn't for her.
But despite this setback, Hayek has not strayed away from keeping her skin in the best possible state. The award-winning actress revealed her skincare routine in a February 2023 video to British GQ Magazine.
Answering Twitter questions, Hayek was asked about her skincare routine, praising her for looking amazing in her 50s.
"What? I'm 41!" she joked.
"My grandmother taught me to never wash my face in the morning. It's not disgusting, guys. What happens at night is your skin produces all the oils that your skin needs to look youthful. It regenerates. So, wash your skin really well at night but don't wash the hard work off your skin in the morning."
This was not the first time that Hayek offered the same advice on not washing your face in the morning.
"In the morning, I don't wash my face with soap or cleanser. I dot on some rose water, then moisturizer, and I never use sunblock unless I'm going in the sun," she shared with Harper's Bazaar.
According to OptiSkin founder and board-certified dermatologist Dr. Orit Markowitz, one shouldn't wash their face in the morning with a cleanser if it was already washed at night.
"If you go right to bed after washing your face, it is not coming in contact with anything that really needs to be washed off," she told Byrdie.
Hayek went into further detail about her beauty regimen when she appeared on Kelly Ripa’s podcast, “Let’s Talk Off Camera” in July 2023, where she again touched on the subject of Botox. When asked if she has ever undergone the cosmetic procedure, Hayek adamantly stated:
“No Botox!”
Instead, the “Desperado” star said she sticks to more zen approaches to keep herself looking and feeling youthful.
“Because of a lot of things in my body and health issues, somehow I developed this strange meditation that I keep evolving. I can do it for hours because you don't feel the time, and it's so much fun,” she said.
She added she can feel the difference when she skips it.
“When I don't (meditate) for some time, guess what? Not only (does) the face starts to drop and everything starts to drop, (but also) my herniated disc, the problem in my neck, the problem in my hip, my ankles (come back). I start breaking down,” she remarked.
While Hayek may be a strong proponent of the exercise, her husband, billionaire business magnate François-Henri Pinault, isn’t as convinced. “My husband doesn't believe in it. But when it's really bad... he'll go, ‘Have you been doing your yoga?’ He won't even call it that,” she added.
Hayek also revealed that she has some unconventional items in her beauty kit, including an ingredient called Tepezcohuite used in Mexico for burn victims as it “completely regenerates the skin.” Hayek also opts for radio frequency and micro-frequency machine treatment and said:
“I do a lot of the frequency machines and they work on me better than on anyone. And just the meditation … sometimes when I'm doing it, people tell me when I come out of the room, ‘'Oh my God, again, you look 20 years old.’”
