Royals Poke Fun At Prince George After Nudging Flag Into His Ear

Queen Elizabeth II is celebrating her 70-year reign the first week of June 2022, although the true anniversary was back on Feb. 6, 2022. The Platinum Jubilee is taking place over a four-day bank holiday, and citizens have partaken in several celebratory events. 

The queen is the country's longest-reigning monarch, making the Platinum Jubilee the first-ever in history. The palace has chosen to celebrate in June rather than February in the hope of better weather. The four-day bank holiday began on Thursday, Jun. 2, 2022. The Trooping of Colour happened that day, and it was also the day the Platinum Jubilee beacons were lit across the UK.

On Friday, Jun. 3, there was a Service of Thanksgiving for the queen's reign held at St Paul's Cathedral. Earlier in the day on Saturday, the queen attended the Derby at Epsom Downs, and that evening marked the Platinum Party that took place at Buckingham Palace. The event was put on by both the palace and the BBC. 
Jun. 4 also marked the first birthday of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's daughter Lilibet. The queen's 12th great-grandchild was born on Jun. 4, 2021, in Santa Monica, California. 

Aside from Lilibet's birthday, Jun. 4 also entailed a special live concert from Buckingham Palace, in which Prince George and the whole Cambridge family enjoyed performances from stars all over the globe. With many other royal family members in attendance, it only makes sense that they decided to have some fun with one another during the milestone event.

Elizabeth's Coronation happened on June 2, 1953. Her iconic white satin Coronation dress was designed by British fashion designer Norman Hartnell and featured the embroidered emblems of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth in gold and silver thread.

Falling into six distinct parts, the Coronation includes the oath, the anointing, the investiture — which also includes the crowning — the enthronement, and the homage. During this process, the queen is anointed with a special oil made of orange, roses, cinnamon, musk, and ambergris. While the special anointing oil is made in larger batches to last more than one Coronation, a World War II bomb that struck in May 1941 hit the Deanery and destroyed the vial; therefore, a new batch was made especially for Elizabeth's Coronation. The event was broadcast on television by the BBC, marking a historic moment as the first Coronation to be televised. Since TV was such a recent invention, for many people, it was the first time they had watched an event on TV. Out of the UK's population of 36 million people, 27 million tuned in to watch the ceremony, according to The Royal Household's website.

In honor of this very special day, the queen released a gorgeous new portrait of herself, as well as a montage of videos that celebrates her extraordinary "life of service." The caption to her portrait thanked everyone who has marked her joyous and historic Platinum Jubilee around the world, and she added:

"I know that many happy memories will be created at these festive occasions. I continue to be inspired by the goodwill shown to me and hope that the coming days will provide an opportunity to reflect on all that has been achieved during the last seventy years as we look to the future with confidence and enthusiasm."

The queen has done something truly remarkable and historical – she is the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. According to Royal UK, she has been the reigning monarch for 70 years now, serving the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms, and the Commonwealth. The palace has chosen to celebrate the queen's long reign in June rather than February in the hope of better weather. The four-day bank holiday began Thursday, Jun. 2, 2022. The Trooping of Colour also occurred that day, and it is also the day the Platinum Jubilee beacons were lit across the UK. Jun. 4, 2022, was a busy day for the royal family as the Platinum Party was held on the same day as Lilibet's birthday. The party featured a concert by top artists. Ahead of the event, the royal family shared:

"The BBC will stage and broadcast a special live concert from Buckingham Palace that will bring together some of the world's biggest entertainment stars to celebrate the most significant and joyous moments from The Queen's seven-decade reign..."

During the special concert, Prince George and his father, the Duke of Cambridge, were spotted singing along to Rod Stewart's performance of the hit Niel Diamond song "Sweet Caroline." However, this wasn't the only cute moment that happened that evening. As caught by photographer James Whatling on Instagram, Princess Anne's daughter, Zara Tindall, decided to poke some fun at Prince George by literally poking him with her flag. The photographer's caption read:

"Prince George takes revenge on Zara Tindall for poking him with her flag at the Platinum Party at the Palace"

Despite George looking less than amused in the photo, we're sure he found humor in his relative's cheeky fun.
