Rod Stewart Reveals He ‘Shall Never Retire’ After Reports His Children Were Worried About His Health

Jun 27, 2023

Rod Stewart has been performing for decades since he started his career as a singer in 1961. Throughout his life, the musician released countless albums and performed in numerous music venues around the world to entertain his fans.

However, as the years go by, the singer’s number one enemy is his physical body as he struggled with a few medical woes, which left his supporters wondering whether he would still continue his blossoming career or retire for the betterment of his health.

According to CNN Entertainment, the British rocker attended a fundraising event for the Prostate Project and European Tour Foundation in England in 2019.

At the time, the musician addressed the crowd, and attendees were shocked by his revelation as he confirmed that he suffered from prostate cancer for three years.

The then 74-year-old artist told guests that the diagnosis happened when he did a routine check-up in 2016. He clarified that he already recovered from the illness at the time, and the reason why it didn’t get any worse was because it was caught early and he underwent many tests.

Later that evening, he encouraged other men to get tested regularly for them to know if they have the same disease as him, and if ever it came back positive, it would increase their chances of survival.

In March of 2023, many fans were disappointed after Stewart took to his official Instagram account to announce that his scheduled show, “A Day On The Green,” with Cyndi Lauper and Jon Stevens in Australia, was canceled at the last minute due to an “infection.”

In addition to the medical struggles he had, which were mentioned above, he was also diagnosed with a shocking thyroid cancer in 2000 that almost cost him his voice. In an interview with ABC, as reported by Express, Stewart revealed that it was shocking for him as he noted: “It was a terrible shock. I mean, I just went into total silence for a few days.”

One of the reasons why he didn’t expect the diagnosis was because he was in great shape and had constantly worked out at the time.

“I was clearly as fit as a butcher’s dog — working out every day, doing shows, still playing weekend football,” he wrote for the Daily Mail.

Fast forward to June 2023, the Daily Mail published an article in which a “close friend of a family” revealed that Stewart’s children are worried about his health and wanted him to retire from the music industry completely.

The insider claimed that several of his kids think it was time for him to “throw in the towel on music” for him to focus on his retirement and his family, especially after his third grandchild was welcomed into the world.

After the article made rounds online, Stewart took to his official Instagram account to clarify any confusion surrounding his retirement.

In the post, the musician said, "I shall never retire!" The reason why was that he “was put on this earth to be a singer and will keep doing so for as long as the good Lord lets me.”

It appears that the singer has big plans ahead of him as he told his fans that after he wraps up his tour, he will be working on new music that he's very eager to share with the public.

In an interview with People Magazine published on June 23, 2023, Stewart shared his future plans, and it appears that he is not going anywhere. Throughout his career, the musician was popularly known for his rock n’ roll music, but he revealed he is ready to leave it behind temporarily and start with a new musical era that fans have never heard from him before.

In the conversation, Stewart said he wanted to move on to swing music and the “Great American Song Book,” but he clarified that he will never forget the old rock 'n' roll music that his supporters knew and loved for decades.

“I might bring them out on the odd occasion, but I basically would like to put them to rest for a little while,” he said.

However, he noted that there will be no more “big tours” in the future as he already bid goodbye to some of his beloved countries like Australia, New Zealand and Mexico. At the time of the interview, he was gearing up for a tour, and he discussed with the outlet how he maintains his high-quality voice.

“A couple of hours singing a few days before these shows start," he said.

Similar to his routine back in the 2000s, Stewart also loves maintaining a healthy lifestyle by working out in the form of swimming during his free time. In addition, he would also train and work out at least four times a week, as he said, "I work out extensively, but I'm generally very fit.”
