Rod Stewart Repairs Road Potholes Himself Since 'No-One Can Be Bothered'

Dec 23, 2022

Rod Stewart is among the best-selling music artists of all time. Starting his career in 1962, Stewart joined Jimmy Powell and The Five Dimensions as the band's harmonica player and vocalist. Later on, he jumped on a few different bands before landing on his current one, Faces.

Apart from joining different bands throughout his musical career, Stewart has established himself as a soloist. To date, he has released a total of 32 studio albums, and seven of those reached No. 1 on the UK Albums Charts.

He is most known for his hits like "Sailing," "Tonight's the Night (Gonna Be Alright)," and "You're in My Heart (The Final Acclaim), among many other chart-toppers that became eventual classical hits.

Stewart is a recipient of the Grammy Award, a BRIT Award, and an Ivor Novello Award. In 1994, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2005, the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006, a CBE in the 2007 New Year Honours, and eventually, he was appointed Knight Bachelor in the 2016 Birthday Honours.

Many would think that a celebrity of that stature would not be lifting a finger anymore to work physically taxing or manual labor jobs to get things done. Most of the time, people look at celebrities to have their wishes granted in a snap.

But for Stewart, he did not bat an eye and put up the tiresome work just to get things done his way. In an impressive encounter in 2022, Stewart took matters into his own hands and picked up the shovel to fill the potholes near his house in London.

In an Instagram video that Stewart posted last Mar. 12, 2022, the music legend is dressed in a tracksuit with a neon green safety vest while he was shoveling gravel to fill the holes on a nearby road on his house.

"I'm repairing the street where I live as no-one can be bothered to do it," Stewart said in the video

According to Stewart, his home in Harlow, Essex County in England, is situated nearby a road where several deep potholes are damaging cars that pass by.

"This is the state of the road near where I live in Harlow, and it's been like this for ages, he further revealed.

"People are bashing their cars up. The other day, there was an ambulance with a burst tyre [tire]. My Ferrari can't go through here at all."

Stewart's post has amassed more than 90,000 likes and hundreds of comments. Fans of the 77-year-old rockstar had been praising him for ditching the preparations for his upcoming tour and taking the time to sweat up and shovel some cement on the potholes.

"Awesome Sir Rod Stewart I know you come from the "if you want something done right, do it yourself "Era. Well done!" a fan commented

"Absolutely Brilliant Sir Rod ... And You Do It Well With The Celtic Gear On . Keep Filling. Good luck Cya At Glasgow paradise," another shared

Actress Joan Collins even joked that he would hire Stewart to do the same thing elsewhere: "Dear nephew - quality work! Can I hire you to do our road in the south of France?"

Thankfully, the local government appreciated Stewart's efforts and physical labor and responded to his needs afterward.

According to BBC, Stewart's decision to fill the potholes by himself paid off when the Essex County Council finished the work he had done.

"We can confirm that this micro-surfacing work was already scheduled to take place prior to any enquiry received, as part of our planned programme of work for this year," the council said in a statement. "The work was completed last week."

The local council also revealed that the road in Harlow, Essex County, was already finished, as well as the surfacing, including the cleansing and repair of the road's drainage – assuring not only Stewart but as well as the other people who pass by on the road that it would be a lasting solution.

In fact, the Essex County Council has invited the "The Killing of Georgie (Part I and II)" hitmaker to come with them for a day to "see how we go about repairing the carriageway."

"We would be happy for Sir Rod Stewart to accompany one of our road-patching gangs for a day," the council told the outlet

However, it is not yet known if Stewart granted the invitation to join the shoveling gang to repair more roads in Essex County.

With the road already being repaired, Stewart can finally drive his Ferrari without having to worry about having a busted tire. Emergency services like ambulances would then be uninterrupted in saving lives. Surely, taking matters into your own hands can make a huge impact.
