Revealed: Prince Harry And Meghan Markle's Summer Holiday With Archie And Lilibet
Jul 15, 2021
Now that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have settled in with their new baby girl, Lilibeth, their summer plans have been revealed.
Meghan Markle gave birth to her second child, a girl, with Prince Harry on June 4, 2021, at 11:40 AM, according to an official statement from the couple. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex first announced that they were expecting their second child on Valentine's Day in 2021, only to reveal the baby's sex during the March 7 interview special "Oprah with Meghan and Harry."
The couple's big announcement on Sunday, June 6, 2021, was the first bit of good news the royal family had in a while, given the saddening events of the past few years, which have been filled with strife and mourning. Prince Philip, who would have been the child's great grandfather, passed away on April 9 at 99 years old. At the time, Meghan could not make it to Philip's April 17 funeral because doctors advised against traveling to the U.K. while pregnant.
PEOPLE reported that the statement from the couple released on Sunday read, "It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet "Lili" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world."
The statement continued, "Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 AM in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA. She weighed 7 lbs 11 oz. Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home."
Now that the two have finally welcomed their second child, it's been reported that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be spending their summer holiday on parental leave. Read on to learn more about the Sussex's summer plans.
According to PEOPLE, the couple's initial statement about Lilibeth read:
"The baby girl's name is truly meaningful as well, as all royal fans would know, and this was also addressed in the statement. "Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales."
The happy couple also posted a statement about their child on their website, Archewell, which read:
"On June 4, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili. She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we've felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family."

Now that Lilibeth's been born, Harry and Meghan Markle will spend the summer holidays on parental leave. According to PEOPLE, the parents of two will likely take a 20-week leave to bond with their newborn girl. This will give Meghan and Harry ample time to spend with Lilbeth and means their leave will end sometime around late September.

Even the official Archwell Foundation website has announced the parental leave:
"While the Duke and Duchess are on parental leave, Archewell will continue to do important work and publish stories on the site. We look forward to seeing you!"
According to PEOPLE, it's expected that the family of four will spend most of their summer in Montecito, California, where they live not far from Meghan Markle's mother, Doria Ragland. The family celebrated Archie's birthday and mother's day with Ragland. However, even before the move to California, the Sussexes were close to Meghan's mom. Ragland even attended Archie's christening at the private Chapel in Windsor Castle. Aside from being Meghan Markle's mom, Ragland was a former makeup artist, business owner, yoga instructor, clinical therapist, and social worker.
Royal fans even spotted a connection to Ragland in Lilibeth's name. According to Meghan Markle's old blog, The Tig, Meghan had a similar nickname given to her by her mother as she was a child. About all of her childhood nicknames, Meghan wrote:
"Meg, MM, M&M, and Flower (which my mom has called me since I was little)."
Since Harry and Meghan have moved back to California, Meghan has been able to spend more time with her mother-in-law, as Doria lives close to Montecito and is, therefore, able to often visit her grandson, Archie.
Whether the family decides to explore around their area in California or just stay home and spend quality time with family, we're confident that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will enjoy their weeks of parental leave and quality bonding time with baby Lilibeth.
