Remembering Alan Jackson’s Chart-Topping Hit ‘Remember When’

Alan Jackson has been a pivotal figure in the world of country music since the late 1980s. The following decade brought him an immense amount of fame and success as he started climbing the charts and bringing in a new and excited wave of fans. Through it all, his wife Denise has stayed by his side. Jackson released his song “Remember When” in 2003 as a single of his compilation album, “Greatest Hits Volume II.” The song soon shot straight to the top of the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart and remained in the No. 1 seat for two weeks. Jackson had already become incredibly well known from other songs in his collection, such as “There Goes” in July 1997 and “Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning Turning)” in November 2001. The country megastar has had a hand in writing many of his songs over the years and has been praised for his craftsmanship and composition abilities.

The singer’s music has really captured the hearts of many people, as he has written about topics that matter and hit close to home. His stage presence, strong voice and heartfelt lyrics undeniably helped make Jackson the star he is today. “Remember When” has been a fan favorite since its release, and its success could most likely be driven from the very personal lyrics about the singer’s life. The song is full of heartfelt words about his relationship with his wife. Jackson and Denise were high school sweethearts and tied the knot in December 1979. They have since gone on to have three daughters together.

Throughout the song, the country singer remembers everything from the beginning of their relationship up to them raising their beautiful children together. In the lyrics, Jackson described how he and his wife will have no reason to be sad when they’re old and gray or when their children will have grown up and moved away because they will forever be glad about all the amazing experiences they shared.

The music video for the breathtaking song is just as touching as the song itself. Released in January 2004, the video depicts Jackson reminiscing on his life with his family. Jackson sat on a stool playing his guitar while home-movie footage of some of his dearest memories with his family played in the background. The footage went back all the way to his own childhood with his parents, clips from his wedding with Denise and even showcased photographs of his three daughters. 

In 2017, Jackson gave an emotional live performance of “Remember When” at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee that left the signer teary-eyed, proving just how much the song and its beautiful lyrics mean to him even so many years after he had written the gorgeous tune. While Jackson has held the song close to his heart, so have many others. “Remember When” has certainly become an incredibly memorable, successful and overall beautiful song.
