Rare Photo Shows Ron Howard And His Son Reed Enjoying A Family Outing

Ron Howard wears many hats as director, producer, screenwriter, and actor. He is of German, English, Scottish, Irish, and Dutch ancestry and is the son of the late renowned actor and director Rance Howard and actress Jean Speegle. Ron gained national prominence at the age of 5 for starring as Opie Taylor in the American sitcom "The Andy Griffith Show" for eight years. He continued acting as a child and then as a teenager. 

Ron was particularly famous for his roles as Steve in "American Graffiti" and Richie Cunningham in the comedy "Happy Days," from 1974 to 1980. The roles placed him in the spotlight and gave him a reputation as one of America's teenage heartthrobs. However, Ron's interest lay in directing, so he left "Happy Days" to pursue his passion.

Ron's determination to direct paid off, and he soon began making blockbusters and award-winning movies. He also branched into writing and producing, including writing a few TV series. His works as a director on the big screen include "Apollo 13," "Rush," "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," "Parenthood," "Backdraft," "Far And Away," and the film series, "The Da Vinci Code." 

Ron has won two Academy Awards, four Emmys, two Golden Globes, and a Grammy, among several other awards, for his prowess. He has also been married to actress Cheryl Howard nee Alley since 1975, and they have four children.

On July 6, 2023, Ron went with his son and family to the cinema, after which he and his son, Reed Howard, posed on the sides of an "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" Imax poster. Ron shared the rare photo with his son on Instagram, and fans couldn't help but note the resemblance between the duo and their red hair. Keep reading to get the details.

Ron Howard and his wife Cheryl have been together for nearly five decades. Their marriage has often served as an inspiration to those who wonder if marriages in Hollywood still last. The duo were high school sweethearts and tied the knot when they were very young, proving that young marriages can also survive the challenges couples face. 

Ron and Cheryl share three daughters and a son: Bryce Dallas Howard, 42; twins Paige and Jocelyn Carlyle Howard, 38; and Reed Howard, 36. They are all famous for inheriting their parents' ginger hair. Ron's family is closely-knit, and fans noted this when they saw a post on Ron's Instagram that showed Bryce giving Reed a haircut in January 2023. 

"@brycedhoward gives her brother @reedchoward a haircut just before New years. Bryce is good! She trims what's left of my fringe whenever the family gathers. Too bad she's so busy with the child-rearing/acting/directing/producing/writing/educating," Ron captioned the post. 

Bryce followed her parents' footsteps and is a successful actress popular for her work in "Spider-Man 3," "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" and the "Jurassic World" movie franchise. She is also a director and shares two children, Theodore and Beatrice, with her husband, Seth Gabel. 

Paige Howard is one of Ron and Cheryl's twin daughters. She is an actress who debuted in the 2009 movie, "Adventureland." Paige is well-known for her role in "stalkTALK." She is also a children's book author and is married to actor Timmy Abou Nasr.

Paige's twin sister Jocelyn is quite reticent and prefers to keep out of the spotlight, unlike her parents and siblings. She doesn't have an active social media profile either. However, the 38-year-old twin has appeared alongside her family in "Arrested Development." 

Ron's last child, Reed, is often considered his younger version. The two men showed off their resemblance again on July 6, 2023, when they took pictures in front of an "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" IMAX poster after watching the last of the movie franchise. Ron posted the picture on Instagram and captioned it: 

"Our family had a blast. What a great way to wrap up this tremendous character journey. Great action, fun and heart. Enjoy it on the big screen." 

Fans quickly took to the comment section to drop their remarks. "Looking good, guys. Nice plug, too 👍," a fan commented. Another follower threw a question to Ron: 

"Just curious. Do you watch movies as a fan or as Ron Howard the director?"

Ron's picture with Reed is one of the few times the latter has appeared publicly. Reed may have taken after his father's looks but decided on a different career path. Much like his sister, Jocelyn, he didn't venture into the entertainment world, choosing to play golf professionally.  

The 36-year-old started playing golf when he was young and was a men's golf team member at the University of South Carolina Beaufort. Reed has also played competitively in golf tournaments like Webber International Tournament, Wilmington Island Invitational, and USC Aiken Invitational. 

The athlete has a YouTube channel dedicated to golf and teaches amateur players how to improve their techniques. Reed is passionate about golf and even invented a device to make playing it easier. The device, Steadhead, improves the arm's coordination and aligns the eye accurately. 

Reed is happily married to Ashley Gioffre. They tied the knot in 2015 and have a daughter, Aspen Leigh Howard.
