Queen Elizabeth II Had Made Final Promise To Prince Philip And It’s A Heart-Wrenching One

Jul 13, 2021

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s relationship was one for the ages. Their romance spanned over 70 years, and the love the two shared for one another was extremely evident and heartwarming to witness. On April 9, 2021, Philip passed away in Windsor Castle at the age of 99 due to old age. He had been the longest-serving royal consort in British history. The royal family grieved their loss, as did the rest of the world as many people sent their condolences to the queen.

The family had a small funeral for the Duke of Edinburgh, and also publicly paid tribute to him in the days after his death. Philip had retired from his royal duties in August 2017, so the queen had grown accustomed to handling matters on her own, but this was still a challenging and difficult time for her. While people around the world, especially those in England, mourned the loss of Philip, the queen had returned to her royal duties just four days after his death. Since then, she has made an effort to put her responsibilities as her first priority while still remembering her late husband and carrying on the memories of him.

Prior to his death, the queen had made a promise to Philip about what she would do following his passing. Their relationship was clearly a brilliant one, as the promise is incredibly touching and heartbreaking. Her Majesty has proven time and again that she is the epitome of grace as she has handled such a difficult time in her personal life with such dignity, and has worked on moving forward.

Metro UK reported that Elizabeth had made an incredibly moving promise to her husband before he passed away. According to the news outlet, Her Majesty “vowed to continue enjoying life” after losing the love of her life. Royal expert Richard Kay said that Philip had sworn to do the same if the queen had died before him, and they discussed how they would cope without each other.

“Philip’s retirement had allowed her time to adjust to doing things alone,” Kay said. “But provided he was at the end of the phone after a trying day, the world’s best-known double act could still function behind the scenes.” While the coronavirus pandemic overtook the world and left many in a frightened state as it brought on new challenges, there was a silver lining for the queen and her husband. “Covid changed everything but, crucially, it brought an unexpected dividend in that she and Philip were together for the last 13 months of his life,” Kay said.

Kay continued and explained that the royal couple had agreed on how to cope with the loss of the other. “The two had often discussed how each would cope without the other at their side, and it boiled down to this: whoever was left should mourn, but not for too long, then enjoy what remained of their life,” he said. Despite the stages of grief that come with losing someone so close, the queen has made sure to stay true to her promise to her late husband and has been seen keeping true to her promise in the last few months.

While she has made an effort to carry out all of her royal tasks and duties, she has also appeared to be enjoying her life. Metro UK reported that she was a “a hit” with world leaders at the G7 summit, and even visited the famous Coronation Street set. Friends and family who are close with the Queen have spoken out about how well she is doing and how she has been handling her grief.

Mike Tindall, who is married to the Queen’s granddaughter Zara, explained just how amazing the queen was holding up. “Having to see the Queen make a stand in terms of having to show what the world is at the moment and sit on her own and be as brave as she was, I thought, just summed her up as a lady,” he said. “She was amazing.”

Tindall continued, “Then the funeral finished and it was ‘Get in your cars and go home,’ but that is what is allowed, that is what the rules state, so that is what happened.” The queen had faced such a heartbreaking moment head on, but knew that she needed to continue on with her life and carry out all of her responsibilities.

Although the funeral was small, it was still a moment for Philip’s friends and family to come together and celebrate his life once more. “It was tough but I thought the actual funeral was done so well that I think he will be looking down and he would have actually been happier about the way it happened,” Tindall said as he expressed how he thought Philip would have viewed the intimate gathering.
