Sep 04, 2018

If foul trash is filling your kitchen with terrible scents, you are not alone. Some people try to avoid foul odors by taking out the trash each day. While this technique can definitely work, it is annoying to bring your garbage out to the dumpster each night.

Thankfully, there is an easier way to make sure that your kitchen smells great.

Writers at Apartment Therapy recently discussed a few easy ways to keep your trash smelling good. A dryer sheet can fill the trash bag with a pleasant odor. To eliminate foul scents, you can also sprinkle baking soda or kitty litter in the can.

One of the easiest and most effective tricks used a cotton ball. All you need is a basic cotton ball and some essential oils. Within a few minutes, your trash can will be smelling like fine perfume instead of rotting vegetables.

To do this simple trick, you just need to find a cotton ball or two. Then, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the cotton ball. Once the cotton ball has been soaked in oil, put it inside the trash can. This will remove the foul odors and make the garbage smell like your favorite oil instead.

While you can use any essential oil, there are a few options that tend to work the best. If you keep your trash outdoors, rodents and insects can become a nuisance. Neem, tea tree and mint oil are all great at deterring pests. If you want to balance the odors and fight against bacteria, try using a citrus-based essential oil such as lemongrass.

Obviously, you will need to do this trick again once you take out the trash. You can also add a new cotton ball if you notice the odors returning. Many people just add a new cotton ball each time they change out the liner of their trash can.

If you want to maximize your cotton balls, try putting them on the bottom of the trashcan and underneath the liner. Then, replace the cotton ball about once a week. With this simple trick, you can quickly eliminate odors and forget about it.
