Princess Anne And Queen Elizabeth II's Close Bond Apparent In Captured Moments

Queen Elizabeth II has made a video conferencing call as part of her royal duties for the first time ever. The 94-year-old British monarch and her daughter, Princess Anne, spoke to a group of carers to mark Carers Week, an "annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognize the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK."

Princess Anne has an undeniably close bond with her mother and the pair share a love of sport, horse riding and equestrian events in particular. The Princess Royal has also followed in her mother's footsteps with her work ethic and has regularly topped the hardest-working royal tally with hundreds of engagements carried out each year.

Queen Elizabeth II has made a video conferencing call as part of her royal duties for the first time ever. The 94-year-old British monarch and her daughter, Princess Anne, 69, spoke to a group of carers to mark Carers Week, according to a post from the official Royal Family Twitter account on Thursday.

Here's the monarch with Princess Anne and her grandchild, Peter Phillips, posing in November 977 at Balmoral, England. The Queen's first grandchild was born to Anne and her first husband Captain Mark Phillips on November 15, 1977, at St. Mary's Hospital.

Since hereditary titles are passed down through the male line and Captain Phillips does not have a royal title, Peter did not inherit a royal title at birth. According to the BBC, Peter's parents "are said to have rejected an offer from the Queen of titles which would have enabled their children to be born into the peerage." They reportedly thought it would help their child to lead a more normal life.

The mother-daughter resemblance is undeniable in this photo taken in Balmoral, Scotland in August 1983.

The Queen and Prince Philip welcomed their second child and only daughter Princess Anne on 15 August 1950. At the time of her birth, she was third-in-line to the throne behind her older brother Prince Charles and is now currently 14th after her youngest brother Prince Edward’s children, James, Viscount Severn, and Lady Louise Windsor.

The Princess Royal is famous for loving horses and riding them. She had even been crowned as the European Eventing Champion in 1971. According to her trainer Alison Oliver, Anne’s love for horses stemmed from the fact that her parents did not treat her differently just because she was a princess. She told the 2002 Channel 4 documentary The Real Princess Anne that Anne liked the fact horses responded to her like any other rider.

Oliver said:

“The horses didn’t treat her any differently than it would anybody else and reacted to her as a rider and as a person, not as a princess.”

She added:

“Her ambition just grew and grew and she wanted to do well—well, I mean it was not enough just to do it well, she had to really win.”

According to the documentary, Anne’s love for horses was “close to an obsession” as it had been for her mother.

The pair even have a similar sense of style; the mother and daughter were seen in tonal blue dresses as they shared a sweet hand-holding moment at the UK film premiere of Murder on the Orient Express in London in 1974.
