Prince Harry Accused Of Changing His Hair After Fans Called Prince William’s New Scruffy Style ‘Hot’

The royal family is a tight-knit group that does their best to be there for one another through thick and thin. Whether gathering for a special event or just spending the day together for a royal engagement, the royal family members have shown that they truly care for each other. Kate Middleton and Prince William married in April 2011 and have been gracing the world with their beautiful romance ever since. They have three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. 

In contrast, Prince William’s younger brother, Prince Harry, has had a more drama-filled family life. He married American actress Meghan Markle in 2018. While their wedding was a spectacle that appeared primed to usher in a new era of modernity for the staid royal family, it soon devolved into controversy and theatrics. Harry and Meghan eventually stepped down as working royals and moved to the United States to raise their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

In early 2024, serious health issues led to Kate and King Charles taking a step back from public-facing royal engagements, and William stepped up to fill their absence, which is why every noticeable action or change that happens to him is highly talked about. 

While many know William to have sported a clean look on his appearance, the future king experimented with a more scruffy look. The look has since become a topic of much debate on social media, especially after many have compared it to his estranged brother, Prince Harry.

In a video posted by the Prince and Princess of Wales' official Instagram account on Aug. 11, 2024, the royals, other celebrities, and British personalities congratulated the successful Olympians on their brilliant performances in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. According to the official Olympic medal tally, Great Britain placed 7th overall with 14 Olympic gold medals, 22 silver medals, and 26 bronze medals, totaling 65 medals. 

“Well done @teamgb, what an incredible journey! Every athlete showed immense dedication, heart and passion. You made us all so proud! Here’s to celebrating every triumph at @paris2024 and looking forward to more from @paralympicsgb_official later in the summer 🇬🇧🥇” the Prince and Princess of Wales wrote in the video's caption. 

In the video, Kate congratulated Team Great Britain, speaking on behalf of the British public who were watching at home supporting the athletes. William, who sported a fuller bearded look, stood happily by her side as he said his part. 

“Well done on all you’ve achieved. You’ve been an inspiration to us all,” William added. 

The video also featured the Prince and Princess of Wales, rapper Snoop Dogg, football superstar David Beckham and other personalities. 

Meanwhile, in the comments, royal family fans couldn’t help but chuckle after seeing William’s bold hairy look. 

“Great to Catherine again, and William unshaved haha, it’s been years since we’ve seen that, what a sight!” a fan raved. 

“Wow! William looks hot ! Nice tan and lovely stubble! I’m middle aged woman! I’m flushing! 😂😂” another wrote. 

“Love this!! 🇬🇧 love William’s beard and Catherine looks lovely as always!!” a third person echoed. 

“Omg I am loving William's beard, and David Beckham 😍😍😍😍 so glad to see the Princess. Love this video so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️” a fourth person said. 

Prince William’s visit to the Parc y Scarlets to boost the morale of the Scarlets Rugby Union team sparked heated debate on social media about his appearance — specifically, his decision to grow a beard. Many said the scruffy look did not fit the future king. 

“Not a good look on him,” a user said in an Instagram post from Page Six.

“Sorry William I don’t like the stubble 😏,” another commented on the Instagram post of the Prince and Princess of Wales. 

Some even pointed out that it wasn’t the only significant thing that happened to William’s appearance. 

“William lost weight and aged. He needs to rest and be for himself. With harry, his father and wife all too much pressure on his shoulders!!” another commented. 

Others thought that William growing his beard was a good idea. 

One wrote on Instagram, “It looks good on him,” echoing others, “I love the beard!” 

“Even more handsome with his beard😍😍.” 

However, someone pointed out that William copied his brother Harry in growing his beard. 

“The told William not grow his beard, so he copying Harry when had a flight with to shaved it. William is always copying Harry,” a user claimed. 

In Harry’s controversial memoir, “Spare,” the Duke of Sussex noted that his decision to grow his beard got him in a tussle with William, who was heavily against it because of military rules. According to Harry, his beard has been his “security blanket. " He even sought permission from the late Queen Elizabeth II who supported his decision to grow it out.

“But then I explained it to my brother and he…bristled?" Harry recalled. “When I informed him that his opinion didn't really matter, since I'd already gone to Granny and got the green light, he became livid. He raised his voice.” 

Years after chastising Harry about his beard, Prince William decided to grow a beard himself.

Following the debut of Prince William’s bearded look, royal watchers were quick to notice a change to Prince Harry’s look in the days following. In late September 2024, Harry took a break from family life to make a solo trip to New York. There, he attended a Travalyst event to celebrate climate week with the non-profit environmental tourism initiative. 

A clip of the prince’s arrival for the event showed Harry dressed in a smart suit but he kept it mildly casual by forgoing a tie. However, viewers noticed subtle changes to hair color.

“Has he lightened the top of his head/hair? It’s a bit like the badger look. Or is it skin?” one viewer asked.

“Didn’t realize how tall Harry is,” another user remarked.

Many also commented on how at ease he appeared to look.

“He looks so relaxed and happy when he is on his own...👏,” one user commented, while another said, “He is so much happier when he is not with Megan. I wish he would realize this.”

“Wow. He seems sooooo happier without Meghan pushing him around,” a third user said, which was echoed in another comment that read, “He looks great, happy and loveable when not meghan around him 😂😂. Meghan really manipulate him.”

Harry was also praised for his philanthropic work, with one user saying, “Prince Harry is doing the work load of the entire monarchy combined! Diana will be so proud.”

“Getting out of that horrible monarchy was the best thing he could have done for himself. Go Harry. Keep prospering,” another fan enthused.

“The negative comments are from hurt people who want others to hurt. You look great Harry. Keep doing what you are doing and continue to ignore the hate,” another user wrote.

However, Harry still couldn’t escape comparisons to his brother, with one user writing:

“Yeah, there copy catting his brother AS USUAL.”
