Pregnant Woman & Her Partner Throw Her Mother Out Of Their Home After Mom Ranted About Being Treated As A ‘Slave’

Sep 05, 2023

Complications in family relationships are not uncommon. Be it between mother and child, husband and wife, or among siblings, such complicated relationships are not easy to handle. However, the subjects are forced to make rash decisions or live with the drama whenever it happens. In the case of Reddit user SouthChoice420, her relationship with her mom became quite a dilemma when she was faced with an option she both desired and dreaded.

SouthChoice420 took to the AITA community, recounting to users and seeking lasting solutions and opinions in May 2023. The Redditor opened up about her decision to evict her mother from her house due to her excesses. The post received feedback from the netizens as they shared their opinions on the situation.

The mother-child bond is something that is almost inevitable, with the exception being when the subjects do not see eye-to-eye. Sometimes, either of the parties could be overbearing, causing a strain in relationships.

The Redditor, who described herself as a 22-year-old, noted that her mom moved in with her at the beginning of 2023 because she had stayed with her from late August 2022 until Dec. 31, 2022. The original poster (OP) got her own apartment on Jan. 1, 2023, and her fiance, 21, moved all his things to the apartment as she was 39 weeks pregnant at the time. SouthChoice420 continued by explaining that she initially issued some rules to her 45-year-old mom. She relayed:

“The original agreement for my mother to move in with me was no drugs, no smoking in the house, and that she would do the majority of the housework since I've worked two jobs the majority of my pregnancy and paid all the bills.”

The Reddit user shared that she lived at her mom’s house and paid the bills at the time as her mom had no job. She also added that it was her mom’s boyfriend’s home. In hindsight, the pair broke up, and he threw her mom out. Besides being thrown out by her lover, OP's mom also had issues with the law. She explained:

“In September, she was in jail for a month on a possession charge, and didn't go to any probation visits afterwards, so now she has warrants for FTA and VOP. Which is why she wanted to move in with me, since I moved to an entirely different county.”

Their living situation began to unravel when OP’s fiance decided to move in with her. He also started going over to her apartment frequently. When the couple started having the discussion of moving in together, SouthChoice420 told her mother to start looking for another place to stay. At this point, things changed drastically, and her mom even stopped doing any house chores and argued all the time. She explained:

“She has completely stopped doing any housework and has started more arguments. She smokes inside the house constantly.”

The situation came to a head on the day she made the post, noting that her mom left so many chores undone and the house was unkempt. She wrote:

“Today has hit a boiling point. The sink is overflowing with dishes since bringing his from his apartment, on top of my mother cooking and not cleaning up after herself. My fiance and I had a plan to do them together when he gets off work this evening.”

OP continued: “Well I was taking a nap and my mother woke me up from the kitchen slinging and slamming dishes and cabinets going on about how it's disgusting (admitting, yes. It is. And as I said, we planned to do it ourselves) then went on to say that we treat her like a 'slave' and like sh*t in the house because she doesn't pay any bills.”

Adding a side note, the OP included that her mom had not “contributed a dime to any bill in the past 5 months (rent, electric, water, food, ect).” She continued:

“I got fed up and told her she doesn't have to stay here then. I didn't tell her to do the dishes, it wasn't even expected. She continued to scream and say that 'she's finding a place'. I've been hearing that for weeks. I told my fiance about what had happened and he's wanting to kick her out tonight."

Although the OP supported that idea, she was also worried that her decision might cause a backlash. She revealed that her mom wanted to be present when her child, who is also her mother's first grandchild, was born. However, what she wanted was for her mother to leave.

Other Reddit users examined the situation, noting that she was NTA. One person stated: “This woman is literally a fugitive from the law. Harboring her is illegal…”

"NTA- I'd not have someone in my place SMOKING while you're pregnant, she already broke the rules you had in place and now needs to accept her consequences,” another added.

A third user chipped in, “Let your fiancé kick her out. Your about to give birth you don’t need this."

"NTA - she's overstayed her welcome. You don't need that negativity in your life," another person encouraged the Redditor.
