Pregnant Woman Gives Birth Same Day Her ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ Audition Airs
Apr 19, 2023
Auditioning for a televised talent show can be extremely nerve-wracking and stressful. Motherhood is also an endeavor that can be pretty challenging yet incredibly rewarding. Most people wouldn’t associate these two life moments together, but for one woman, they happened simultaneously.
Amy Lou Smith from Tipton, England, is a contestant on “Britain’s Got Talent” – a televised talent competition show that highlights acts from all walks of life and acts with a variety of different skills and talents. Smith auditioned for the show while she was 30 weeks pregnant, but she didn’t let that hold her back.
While it can be tougher to sing and have strong breath control and vocal agility during pregnancy, Smith proved that this was not the case for her. She was a true vocal powerhouse during her audition. Smith performed “Listen” by Beyoncé from “Dreamgirls,” and it’s safe to say that the judges heard her loud and clear. In fact, they were so impressed with her vocal abilities that she received a yes from all four judges: Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone so connected to an audience in all my years of doing this,” Cowell said. “Whatever happens next is going to be amazing. Really, you deserve this.”
Since the show is filmed ahead of time, Smith was further into her pregnancy by the time her episode of “Britain's Got Talent” aired on April 15, 2023. Smith didn’t even realize that her audition was going to be included in that episode and was pleasantly surprised to see herself on television.
Surprisingly, Smith had even more of a reason to celebrate; just a few hours earlier on that same day, Smith had given birth to her daughter, Aida.

According to The Sun, Smith gave birth to her daughter, Aida, just a few hours before her “Britain’s Got Talent” aired on TV. The 34-year-old was already a mom to 4-year-old Hudson. Her audition was filmed about three months prior to her giving birth.
Smith joked that Aida was an “absolute celebrity” in the hospital that day thanks to the audition. She told The Sun, “My beautiful BGT baby, what a surreal thing to say!” Smith also mentioned how amazing it was that Aida would one day be able to tell her friends about how she met Cowell before she was even born.
“The fact she’s already been on stage in front of Simon and the other judges is crazy,” the mom added. She continued, “I cannot believe that all the stars are aligning and that I get to share this moment with my baby girl and family.”
Smith shared that she auditioned for the show in hopes of creating a better life for her family. “All I’ve ever wanted to do is give my children the best life possible,” she said. With Aida, Smith feels that her family is “complete,” and the little girl has already “provided so much joy.”
The “BGT” Instagram page commemorated Smith’s delivery by posting a photo of Smith from her audition along with the caption:
“Huge #BGT congratulations to Amy Lou! 🥳 Just hours before her audition aired on Saturday, she gave birth to the wonderful baby Aida! We wonder if little Aida remembers playing such a glowing part in that AMAZING singing performance… 😝💖”
Only time will tell if little Aida grows up to be as talented as her mom!
