Poisonous Toads Hitch A Ride On Python To Escape Flood

Jan 07, 2019

I just love nature, especially wildlife. Some wild creatures do weird things that you could not imagine in your wildest dreams. Just yesterday, I saw a video of one of the strangest things I've ever seen. It was in Australia. The wildlife is kind of crazy there, but this beat everything. This is what I saw:

One night, there was a heavy rainstorm in Western Australia. The rain brought out a lot of the local creatures, who got flooded out of their usual nests, burrows, and other hiding places.

There are many poisonous toads that live in that area of Australia. One of the human residents there observed thousands of them that night out in the pouring rain.

There was also a huge snake out in the rain, a python more than 11 feet long! He's been in the area for a long time, and all the local humans know him. He is so famous and so beloved in the neighborhood that the people there gave him a name: Monty.

What happened next is unbelievable. A whole bunch of the poisonous toads jumped up onto Monty's back. There must have been hundreds of them riding on top of Monty.

Most of the people who saw this in person or in the video thought that the toads were just lazy and were trying to hitch a ride out of the rain. One expert on amphibians, though, had a different idea. You're not going to believe it!

The amphibian expert thought that the poisonous male toads were all trying to mate with the python!

That made me laugh. How could all these toads mistake an 11-foot python for a female toad? They don't look anything alike, and one is about a thousand times bigger than the other.

Who knows what goes through the mind of a horny toad. Maybe the poor toads were just confused. Or maybe Monty is a good-looking beast in the eye of a toad, and all the toads had a crush on him.

The story has a happy ending. Monty could have gotten very sick if he ate any of the poisonous toads, but he was smart enough to leave them alone and seek his dinner elsewhere. The toads didn't get any romantic action that night, but they managed to survive the storm.

That story cracks me up. Are you laughing too? Send this to your friends who could use a good laugh today.
