Pizza Delivery Employee Sheds Tears Shortly After Delivery
Mar 27, 2021
Bob the Domino’s pizza delivery driver received a heartwarming surprise when he made a delivery stop in June 2020. Three friends, two women and one man, decided to record their encounter with him as they had a surprise in mind for the delivery man.
In the video, the friends were seen setting up a bunch of red cups on their kitchen counter. Since most people typically have something to drink when they eat, this action did not really seem out of place. The way the cups were arranged was what made the display so odd.
When Bob arrived at the house, he was asked to come inside and follow the group of friends to the kitchen because that’s where they had kept their money. When he made his way to the kitchen, he found a nice countertop covered with 12 cups, face down, arranged in a circle. The ensemble explained to Bob that he would be able to pick any six of the 12 cups and keep whatever he found under them.
Bob had worked in the food service industry for 11 years, so he was used to making deliveries and meeting customers daily. What he wasn’t used to was the fun and sheer amount of kindness the group displayed that day.
“No one has ever done anything like this,” Bob explained to the group in a video captured and uploaded by the friends.
Throughout the video, Bob showcased his professionalism while still having fun. He entertained the group by agreeing to play their game. Unbeknownst to him, it would be impossible to lose.

The game started with the three friends eager to watch Bob play. Bob seemed shy, but kicked the game off strongly. He managed to earn himself a $20 bill, already a generous tip for delivering just a single pizza. This amount grew slowly as Bob picked up the next few cups, making another $11.
Bob smiled while remaining courteous, but he was clearly anticipating what was going to happen next. It was something Bob probably never would have predicted.
The friends revealed to Bob that there was one cup that contained more money than he had collected all together so far. His face beamed, but he managed to restrain his reaction.
His fifth choice was his most thrilling choice yet. With all eyes on him, Bob brought one of the remaining cups closer to him. He hesitated for just a moment before picking it up off the table, revealing a $100 bill. Bob was shocked. He immediately became emotional, his face looking slightly red and his eyes filling with tears.
“Are you for real?” he asked the friends, wondering if they were joking around or if they were going to change their minds. One of the friends quickly reassured him. “We just wanted to make your day,” she told him.
Bob’s emotions took over completely, causing the man to shed tears. He raised his arm to wave and say goodbye, barely able to speak, and began walking out of the kitchen and back to the front door. He hadn’t even finished flipping over his six allotted cups.

The Venmo Challenge
The friends followed him and gave him a group hug. They expressed their appreciation of him and his work once more before he stepped outside. One of the friends had a last minute idea and immediately invited him back inside and back to the kitchen.
The woman told Bob that he had more cups to pull and flipped over the remaining cups to give him all the cash underneath. Bob’s total rose another $83. The man cried more and once again expressed his overwhelming gratitude toward the friends for their kind generosity.
These friends weren’t the only people putting their display of kindness on the Internet. TikTok user Lexy Burke did something similar, putting her large social media following to good use.
Burke created the Venmo Challenge where she asked each of her followers to donate 50 cents to her personal Venmo account. According to ABC Action News, she wanted to help leave a large tip for the servers at the restaurant she was visiting on her birthday. In just one day, Burke accumulated $1,200. Burke used this money to pay for her meal and leave the server a tip over $1,000.
This inspired Burke to continue the challenge so she could tip more service workers. Whenever she had collected a large enough amount from her followers, she would give it to someone else in the service industry, like an Uber driver or an entire crew of restaurant servers.
Burke’s TikTok went viral and gained even more followers. She was able to raise over $45,000 in just one week, according to ABC Action News.
Here’s A Tip
There are a few reasons why people in the United States leave tips. It could be to express their gratitude for friendly or efficient service, or simply because they want to support the businesses they frequent.
Michael Lynn, a professor at Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration, did an interview with PBS giving his thoughts on tipping. He provided the five main reasons why Americans typically leave tips.
“Some people tip to show off,” Lynn told PBS. “Some people tip to help the server, to supplement their income and make them happy. Some people tip to get future service.”
He also explained how a lot of people are conditioned to tip in order to be perceived as a good person since most people tip when they eat out.
“And some people tip out of a sense of duty,” Lynn further explained.
Whatever the personal reason for the tip, there is also a very obvious one that should be addressed. Many restaurant workers and other food service workers do not make minimum wage. This means their tips are crucial to help them earn a liveable wage.
You never know how your actions could impact someone’s day. One small, kind gesture could change someone’s life. This group of friends from the viral video decided to distribute their wealth to a man who had been in the food service industry for 11 years. This fun game the friends set up made sure to tip this kind man enough to surpass their bill, a normal tip rate and more.
