Pierce Brosnan Revealed He Meditates To Control His Temper So He Doesn’t ‘Get Angry’

May 16, 2023

For someone who has been through many heartbreaking experiences, like the death of a loved one or a difficult childhood, James Bond star Pierce Brosnan said that he is not capable of anger and he does not even lose his temper.

The "GoldenEye" actor, who went through two instances of unimaginable grief when his first wife and daughter both died from the same type of cancer, said he meditates regularly so that his mind is calm and balanced. In an exclusive interview with Closer via Bang Showbiz, Brosnan said that there is no point in letting anger fester so he quiets his mind and emotions with mediation.

Brosnan lost his first wife, Cassandra Harris, in December 1991 when she was 43 after a nearly five-year battle with ovarian cancer. Two decades later, Charlotte, Brosnan's 42-year-old adopted daughter from Harris’ first marriage, also lost her battle with the same disease in June 2013. Incidentally, Brosnan's mother-in-law also died because of ovarian cancer when Harris was in her teens.

In his childhood, Brosnan did not have an easy life because his father abandoned his family and his mother was hardly home because of her work as a nurse. The James Bond star lived with his maternal grandparents and spent most of his childhood by himself.

Apart from meditation, Brosnan also used painting as an outlet for his emotions and feelings, which eventually led him to study at London's Saint Martin's School of Art to become an illustrator. He secured his first job as a graphic artist until he discovered his love for acting three years later.

Despite his sad experiences, Brosnan insisted that meditating has been the key to controlling his emotions.

"I don’t get angry," the 70-year-old star said. "I could get angry – but where would that anger go?"

The "Mamma Mia" actor has also found new love and happiness with his second wife, Keely Shaye Smith, 59, whom he married in 2001. The Irish superstar chose to live in Kauai, Hawaii with Smith and their kids because the seaside atmosphere calms him as well.

During the lockdowns, Brosnan isolated in Hawaii with his family and frequently meditated on the beach. However, the family still travels back home to Dublin and County Meath from time to time.

"Water has always been a part of my joy and existence," Brosnan said, adding that he was mindful to live on the coast when he arrived in America in the 1980s to work on “Remington Steele,” the popular crime drama with Stephanie Zimbalist

Brosnan has also continued painting as his other outlet, with an exhibition at Seasons L.A., a gallery in Los Angeles, from May 14 to 21, 2023. His work has utilizes distinctive pops of color that appear playful and very modern.

The actor’s son, Paris, who is also a painter, said he saw his father's work evolve over the years and he has become a "legit artist" because of this exhibition, per ArtNet. On the other hand, Brosnan said he's filled with fatherly pride whenever he's painting next to his son in their garage at home. He described these moments as a "beautiful experience.”
