People Slam Woman Who Saved Her Husband’s Ex-Wife’s 'Poor Baby' From Foster Care
Sep 08, 2023
Christie Werts, 48, and Wesley Werts, 45, fell in love in 2018 and tied the knot. They also blended their families as they had two children each before getting married. After their marriage, they tried to have a baby.
“I'm in my forties so we knew that we would probably need fertility treatment, so I thought let's just think about it and what will be will be,” Christie told Newsweek in an interview published on July 30, 2023.
Little did she know she would get a miracle baby. In August 2021, Wesley’s ex-wife gave birth to a baby boy but she died days after his birth from complications linked to COVID-19 and her drug problem. She and her new partner had drug addictions, and she delivered the baby prematurely at 33 weeks. The late woman’s sister then contacted Wesley, who had no idea she was pregnant.
After hearing the story, Christie knew she needed to adopt the baby. She didn’t want him in foster care, having been in the system since she once stayed in care once she clocked 15. Meanwhile, Christie had been having a recurring dream about a blue-eyed, blond-haired baby before then.
“For three months I kept having this dream. Sometimes he was a baby, other times a toddler,” she said.
On Instagram, she revealed that “God put this baby on my heart months before we even knew about him.” She also posted a clip of how he grew.
As the baby’s biological father was still in the picture and living in Texas, the family sold their house in Ohio and moved to Texas to foster the baby, Levi, so they could adopt him. They finalized Levi’s adoption in January 2023, after a 16-month process, which they thought would be easier since his aunt and half-siblings were involved.

Christie was initially concerned she might not bond with the child, but she was wrong.
“When I walked in and saw this blond-haired, blue-eyed baby, I immediately fell in love. It was a very surreal feeling,” she said. “This was my son. Even my daughter (Megan) when she first saw him said, ‘He has our button nose!’”
Levi was known as “Baby Werts” throughout the adoption process since his mom only gave him a surname.
“On paper, he was a child with no first name, no birth certificate, and was a ward of the state,” Christie told the Daily Mail. “Just to know he would have a birth certificate (and) a legal first name was very emotional.”
Christie believed Levi’s mom surnamed him Werts as a sign that her ex-husband should have him.
“She had already had two other children taken away from her, and two more in care,” Christie disclosed.
Levi had some problems with his hands after birth, but they resolved in a few weeks. After a comment on social media asked them not to forget Levi’s birth mom, the couple disclosed that they planned to tell Levi about her when he gets older.
However, some people criticized Christie after the Daily Mail’s Facebook post.
"There's somethings you don't share on the media sorry and this is one of them?" someone said.
A second person commented, “So you adopted your husband’s ex wife’s baby and you needed all social media to know about it .. 🙄🙄🙄..I mean, poor baby, he's gonna see this when he grow up and is gonna give him a lot of depression and more .. all for social media, keep this to yourself is not worth the money ma’am.”
However, other comments were positive and lauded Christie for her kind-hearted ways.
