Penguins Gleefully Assemble To Be Weighed At The St. Louis Zoo
Jun 19, 2020
It was recently weigh-in day for the penguins at the St. Louis Zoo. Cheered on by their enthusiastic keeper, each penguin lined up to step on the scales. Some were excited to share their number, trumpeting in joy as they stepped up. Every animal at the zoo needs a checkup from time to time and these penguins are more than happy to help complete their med-checks as you'll see in this video from earlier this year.
Not only were the penguins glad to get on the scales, but their keeper had to slow a few down from climbing up right next to their friends. Weighing in at around 4 pounds each, these birds are ready to celebrate.
Gathering data on the health of all animals within the zoo's care is critical to the success of every penguin program, reports ZSL London Zoo. By training the birds to step on the scales and receive praise the penguins can be weighed properly by their care team. These penguins seem to have the process under control.

Their keeper seems to be happy with the numbers they're reporting. If only all doctors would cheer and gift treats after each visit! The trumpets of the first penguin should be the goal reaction of anyone stepping on a scale. Is there anyone in your life that deserves a treat for their number on the scales these days?
You can learn more about the St. Louis Zoo, as well as watch live feeds of the penguin sanctuary online through the zoo's website. There are multiple exhibits to explore as well as more to learn regarding the seven different breeds of puffins and penguins that call the St. Louis Zoo home.
The zoo also has its own YouTube channel where they've posted hundreds of videos about all of the different animals in their care. These videos are great for the whole family and have many education-based pieces of content to help children learn more about wild animals.
