Officers Team Up To Lip Sync "Man Of Constant Sorrow" And They Totally Nail It

There are some songs that everybody knows and "The Man of Constant Sorrow" is one of them. This video shows a group of officers singing their hearts out to the traditional American song, "Man of Constant Sorrow".

Written in 1913, "Man of Constant Sorrow" was recorded in 1927. After a few decades, the song finally made its way to popularity.

Finding fame again in the 2000 movie, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, this song truly is an evergreen tune. Published first by Dick Burnett, a Kentucky fiddler, this song was also known as "Farewell Song" in Burnett's 1913 songbook. Emry Arthur went on to record the song in 1928, paving the way for the song's new title.

Man of Constant Sorrow's Rise to Newfound Popularity

The song "Man of Constant Sorrow" continued to gain popularity when Dan Tyminski sang his rendition that went on to win a Grammy. This is the version of the song that most fans know today. Performed numerous times in the film, O Brother, Where Art Though?, "Man of Constant Sorrow" has been going strong for several years.

In the film, the three main characters go to a recording studio. As escaped criminals, they record the song with the fake name, Soggy Bottom Boys. Though they recorded the song for fun, it became a hit in the movie.

Later on, the band performs the tune at an event. The crowd raves over the boys' performance as they sing in disguises. This comedic scene is one of the most memorable from the movie and the one that the officers imitate in their video.

The Officers Rendition of the Song

With the song's fame from the movie, any version of "Man of Constant Sorrow" is almost instantly recognizable. This is why the video of these North Carolina Highway Patrol Officers went viral. Using the song for their lip sync video, they almost expertly imitated the scenes from the movie.

This challenge is part of one that has been floating around social media between police departments from various states. In the challenge, officers lip sync to different popular songs, making sure to record a creative video portion to go along with the song. Most of these videos are already going viral.

The "Man of Constant Sorrow" video was no exception. Their imitation of the movie scene is perfect. If these officers ever decide to do professional karaoke, they'd be a huge hit!
