Nicole Kidman Shot Back At Critics Who Trolled Her For Wearing A Micro-Mini Skirt
Aug 04, 2023
Nicole Kidman is a celebrated actress and producer. Kidman is one of the most recognizable stars in Hollywood, having appeared in several films and television shows throughout her career. Moreover, she has received positive nods for portraying several movie roles. Kidman is the recipient of several awards, including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, two Primetime Emmy Awards and six Golden Globe Awards.
Kidman's confidence has always been shown on screen, so it is no wonder that she is not afraid to undergo a bold transformation if it helps her get deeper into her role. Kidman has dramatically changed her look throughout her career several times, and the effort has also helped her performance.
Kidman's films vary in genre, and she has portrayed many different characters. From playing Virginia Woolf in "The Hours" with a prosthetic nose to donning a wig and heavy makeup to bring punk rocker Queen Boadicea to life in "How to Talk to Girls at Parties," Kidman's many looks have been iconic.
Much like her diverse roles, Kidman's fashion choices are also daring. Dressing up isn't a problem for Kidman, as she knows how to grab the attention of many with her outfits. When it comes to dressing up, the 56-year-old takes no prisoners; she wears whatever she is comfortable with, paying no mind to what people will say, even if she goes with risky choices.
In an article posted by People on July 16, 2023, Kidman defended her outfit when she graced the cover of Vanity Fair's 2022 Hollywood Issue.
Besides being stellar at acting, Kidman knows how to bring her A-game when making a fashion statement. And throughout her career, Kidman has made bold fashion statements on red carpets and magazine covers. But Kidman's love for dressing up didn't just spring up when she became a celebrity; her fashionable mother and grandmother inspired it.
"I grew up with a grandmother and a mother who loved clothes," Kidman revealed in an interview with InStyle.
Besides the influence of her fashionable relatives, the "Aquaman" actress revealed that there were also prominent designers who spoke to her in terms of style, including John Galliano, whom she met while he was working in Paris at Dior, as well as the late fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld, popularly known for his simple yet elegant works for Chanel.
Regardless of her knack for going bold with her outfits, Kidman is much calmer on the beauty front. In a 2007 interview with Marie Claire, she revealed that she preferred her natural beauty.
"To be honest, I am completely natural. I have nothing in my face or anything. I wear sunscreen, and I don't smoke. I take care of myself. And I'm very proud to say that," she shared.
Years after the interview, Kidman eventually tried Botox, but the results weren't at all pleasing to her. According to the Daily Mail, she detailed her experience in a 2011 interview with a German magazine.
"I even tried Botox but I didn't like how my face looked afterwards. Now I don't use it any more and I can move my forehead again," she reportedly revealed.

Kidman proves that you can rock your favorite fashion pieces at any age. Over one year after being criticized for her outfit, the "Rabbit Hole" star has come out to defend her decision to wear the Miu Miu micro-miniskirt on the cover page of Vanity Fair's Hollywood 2022 issue.
According to People, Kidman explained her outfit choice in a cover story for Stellar magazine. She revealed that it was her decision to don the bralette and micro-miniskirt.
"It was fun. That was my choice. And yeah, I own it. I'm accountable. Whatever. I take responsibility. Nobody else chose it," she shared.
The low-rise chino skirt, which was an ode to the Y2K trend, caused a stir among internet users who opined that the skirt was too short and revealing.
"Don't tell me, I don't really want to know — it will stop me doing what I want to do. There are times when you hear things and you go, 'Oh my gosh, that's really hurtful,'" Kidman said per People.
But regardless of what the critics said about her, the actress has resolved to live in the freedom of her choices, highlighting that paying attention to naysayers is a recipe for restricting that freedom.
"Because you can't be under a rock," she explained. "But at the same time, I really try to stay free in the choices because otherwise, before you know it, you're just closed off and you can't step anywhere."
Similarly to her interview with Stellar magazine, Kidman admitted in a 2022 Vogue interview that the micromini skirt was entirely her decision. She revealed:
"I showed up and they had another outfit for me and I was like, 'No, no, I like this one! Am I allowed to wear that?'"
