Nicole Kidman Gushes Over Her ‘Enormous Feelings’ For Husband Of 17 Years Keith Urban & Their Family Life

Aug 30, 2023

Nicole Kidman seems to have a perfect life now, but it wasn't always rosy for her. Her first major acting role started with an Australian miniseries titled "Vietnam." Two years later, she landed another role in "Dead Calm" and got noticed by many people, including Tom Cruise. Kidman's initial stint with fame came when she married the renowned actor — who had just gone through his first divorce with Mimi Rogers — at 23 and became popularly known as Mrs. Tom Cruise.

The actress always wanted to have babies, so she was devastated when she had an ectopic pregnancy at the start of her marriage. She also suffered a miscarriage toward the end of her marriage to the actor and learned that she couldn't have children.

Nevertheless, Kidman continued her marriage to Tom, which she felt was perfect. Her career also picked up during her first marriage, starting with "To Die For" and "The Portrait of a Lady." A short while after that, she got a role in "Eyes Wide Shut," which she appeared in alongside her then-husband.

Kidman continued to live in a bubble of happiness with Tom and their adopted children, Isabella Cruise and Connor Cruise, but the bliss would soon shatter. Two months after their 10th wedding anniversary, Tom asked to split and filed for divorce soon after, citing work-related problems. Kidman was crushed. The couple divorced in 2001, and the actress carried her pain until she met and married Keith Urban. She constantly attributed her healing to him.

On June 25, 2023, Kidman celebrated her 17th wedding anniversary with Urban, who has been her light after her challenging divorce with Tom. The Australian actress has spoken fondly about her relationship with her husband, and it was a testament to their love for each other.

Kidman's divorce from Tom was tough on her. She told DUJOUR

"It took me a very long time to heal. It was a shock to my system."

However, she buried herself in her work and continued to receive critical acclaim for her outstanding performances. Kidman appeared in "The Hours" around this time as the suicidal Virginia Woolf and won an Academy Award for Best Actress and a Golden Globe Best for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama for her impressive performance. Despite Kidman's success, she felt something was missing.

"I realized I didn’t want to be alone. I wanted to fall in love again, but I wasn’t sure I could," she told DUJOUR.

In 2005, she met musician Urban at an event for Australians in Los Angeles and was instantly smitten. However, it took a while for the singer to reach out. Kidman and Urban tied the knot in June 2006, and the actress got a huge surprise soon after that.

At 40, she became pregnant with their first child, and in July 2008, they welcomed their daughter, Sunday Rose.

"It took me so long to have a child. I feel enormous gratitude. Sunday has healed an enormous amount in me," she said after the birth.

Elsewhere in her interview with DUJOUR, Kidman explained the process and experience she have gone through to conceive.

“Having my baby has been a healing experience. It took me so long to have a child. I feel enormous gratitude. Sunday has healed an enormous amount in me. It’s a very private thing, but she just has,” Kidman explained.

Kidman has spoken fondly about how her relationship with Urban came about. Speaking to Vanity Fair about it, she had this to say:

“We were very, very quiet about it, and we managed to get through a long period of time without people knowing about us–which is pretty much our style still.”

Unbeknownst to many, the couple was already engaged before they made their first appearance together at the 2006 Grammy Awards. She also waited for Urban to propose before introducing him to her adoptive children with Tom – Bella and Connor.

“I’ve learned an enormous amount having a relationship with someone who is in recovery. I’m more than willing to walk it with him. The two of us are very committed to our relationship,” she further elaborated to Vanity Fair. “We were in a very, very, very bad, painful place, and have managed to step through it…And that’s enough said. Anything else is overindulgent and unnecessary right now. And I think it jinxes it, in a way, and that’s why I don’t go on about my enormous feelings for this man.”

Asked what she thought brought her and Urban together, Kidman said that she believes they are “two lonely people.”

“I would probably say that two very lonely people managed to meet at a time when they could open themselves to each other. We were a mixture of frightened and brave,” she described.

Since then, the two has been a fixture in Hollywood and is one of the most admirable and most enduring power couple in the industry.

Kidman and Urban's love continues to blossom 17 years after they first said "I do" to each other. The mom of four celebrated their long union on Instagram on June 25, 2023, with a black and white photo of them hugging with their faces close to each other.
