Nicole Kidman And Keith Urban Turn Heads At The CMA Awards With Their Lovey-Dovey Romance
Nov 15, 2023
Nicole Kidman seems to have a perfect life now, but it wasn't always rosy for her. Her first major acting role started with an Australian miniseries titled "Vietnam." Two years later, she landed another role in "Dead Calm" and got noticed by many people, including Tom Cruise. Kidman's initial stint with fame came when she married the renowned actor — who had just gone through his first divorce with Mimi Rogers — at 23 and became popularly known as Mrs. Tom Cruise.
The actress always wanted to have babies, so she was devastated when she had an ectopic pregnancy at the start of her marriage. She also suffered a miscarriage toward the end of her marriage to the actor and learned that she couldn't have children.
Nevertheless, Kidman continued her marriage to Cruise, which she felt was perfect. Her career also picked up during her first marriage, starting with "To Die For" and "The Portrait of a Lady." A short while after that, she got a role in "Eyes Wide Shut," which she appeared in alongside her then-husband.
Kidman continued to live in a bubble of happiness with Cruise, and their adopted children, Isabella and Connor, but the bliss would soon shatter. Two months after their 10th wedding anniversary, Cruise asked to split and filed for divorce soon after, citing work-related problems. Kidman was crushed. The couple divorced in 2001, and the actress carried her pain until she met and married Keith Urban. She constantly attributed her healing to him.
On June 25, 2023, Kidman celebrated her 17th wedding anniversary with Urban with a photo she posted on Instagram. Continue reading to find out what she said.
Kidman's divorce from Cruise was tough on her. She told DUJOUR:
"It took me a very long time to heal. It was a shock to my system."
However, she buried herself in her work and continued to receive critical acclaim for her outstanding performances. Kidman appeared in "The Hours" around this time as the suicidal Virginia Woolf and won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for her impressive performance. Despite Kidman's success, she felt something was missing.
"I realized I didn’t want to be alone. I wanted to fall in love again, but I wasn’t sure I could," she told DUJOUR.
In 2005, she met musician Urban at an event for Australians in Los Angeles and was instantly smitten. However, it took a while for the singer to reach out. Kidman and Urban tied the knot in June 2006, and the actress got a huge surprise soon after that. At 40, she became pregnant with their first child, and in July 2008, they welcomed their daughter, Sunday Rose.
"It took me so long to have a child. I feel enormous gratitude. Sunday has healed an enormous amount in me," she said after the birth.
The couple had another daughter, Faith Margaret, in 2011 through surrogacy. For Nicole, her life and marriage to Urban couldn't be more perfect. The duo has been outspoken about supporting each other. And for the actress, having an artistic husband helps ease some of the pressure from work.
"I've got a good husband who is really, really good to talk to. He's artistic, so he gets it. I'm not coming home to someone who just doesn’t understand. And he’s a good buffer," she told Tatler in 2018.
