New Photo Of Prince William's Daughter Charlotte Left Us Speechless

Jul 27, 2022

There's no denying that the British royal family is one of the most famous families making headlines today. 2022 has been an especially momentous one for them, first with the late Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee celebration, and then in September, the sad news of her death.

The queen's grandsons William, Prince of Wales and Prince Harry are also often in the news, especially when it comes to their families. As the heir apparent to the throne, the public is very interested in the lives of William and his family, particularly his three children with his wife Catherine, Princess of Wales: 9-year-old Prince George, 8-year-old Princess Charlotte and 5-year-old Prince Louis.

After William, his three children are next in the line of succession, so the world has been eager to witness the young royals grow up. Although George is the eldest and has started to accompany his parents to select events, Charlotte — the second child and only daughter of the Prince and Princess of Wales — isn't too far behind in age. 2022 marked her 7th birthday and in the previous year, the young princess truly began to transform from a small child to a delightful young girl. And with each year that passes, Charlotte's personality comes out more.

In fact, she's proving to be the cheekiest member of the royal family. Besides her fiery personality, Charlotte also bears a striking resemblance to various family members of hers. This includes her father William, her grandmother Princess Diana, and also her late great-grandmother, Elizabeth. Her resemblance with each of these family members has long been drawn by fans since the little royal was a baby.

Read on to take a look back at Charlotte's life so far and what we know about the young royal.

Born on May 2, 2015, at St Mary’s Hospital in London, Princess Charlotte made an instant impact in England as one of the children of William, Prince of Wales and Catherine, Princess of Wales. Charlotte is the middle child of the family, as she has an older brother, Prince George, and a younger brother, Prince Louis. She is also William and Kate's only daughter and is currently third in the line of succession to the throne, following her father and her older brother.

Following Charlotte's birth, several landmarks were illuminated pink to honor her arrival, including the London Eye and Tower Bridge. There were also salutes at Hyde Park and the Tower of London. Just a few days later, it was announced that Charlotte’s full name was Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, which honored both Diana and the previous reigning monarch and her late great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

As Charlotte gets older, fans continue to point out the similarities she shares with family members, especially her grandmother and great-grandmother — who she's both named after — but also her father! In fact, a photo posted by the Prince and Princess of Wales on the day before Charlotte's 7th birthday sparked many fans to say she's William's mini-me.

However, the young princess' remarkable resemblance to her grandmother, who died in a tragic car accident in Paris in 1997, has been widely discussed by royal fans.  Back in 2018, a fan account on Instagram posted side-by-side photographs of Charlotte and Diana when she was a little girl, and noted their uncanny resemblance. “Omg double of her nana … what a great young lady she will turn out to be with looks as beautiful as her angel nana,” one Instagram user commented.

Not only does Charlotte look similar to her grandmother, but it was previously reported that she is set to own the same piece of jewelry that Diana once owned and wore. According to GoodtoKnow, Charlotte is expected to receive the beautiful Spencer Tiara that belongs to the Spencer family

The tiara is from the 1930s and was designed using pieces of jewelry that the Spencer family already owned to create the masterpiece. It was later famously worn by Diana during her wedding to Charles in 1981 and again on other special occasions, including a state dinner in Brisbane, Australia, in 1983. It is currently in possession of Diana’s younger brother, Charles, 9th Earl Spencer, as per GoodtoKnow. A palace insider said:

“William is close with his uncle and has asked if his mother’s namesake tiara can be given to Charlotte someday.”

However, CNN reported in May 2022 that the Spencer Tiara was on display with Sotheby’s in an exhibition called “Power & Image: Royal & Aristocratic Tiaras.” So, royal fans will have to wait and see to find out if the young princess obtains her grandmother’s tiara in the future.

Still, people have continued to marvel over Charlotte and Diana’s similarities. In June 2022, an Instagram page dedicated to Diana posted a video of Charlotte’s beaming smile. People flocked to the comments to again strike up a conversation about her resemblance to her grandmother. One person wrote:

“She is a beautiful young lady — she looks like her Grandma Diana.”

We have no doubt we will continue to see more similarities with her grandmother through the years as the young princess grows up.

However, Charlotte's similarities to her late great-grandmother Elizabeth are perhaps even more obvious. And not only do they share physical similarities, but Charlotte appears to have a fondness for horses, just like the queen did. A source close to the royals told Closer Weekly back in 2019 that Charlotte asked her parents for a pony for Christmas. While William deemed her too young to be riding, they did gift their daughter a toy riding center with accessories. If Charlotte is anything like her great-grandmother then she will be riding horses for her whole lifetime.

It's even sweeter because Charlotte and the queen shared similar birthdays since they were born just two weeks (and nearly nine decades!) apart. If you compare old photos of Elizabeth at Charlotte's age, the two could even pass as sisters.

However, when it comes to her personality, it appears that Charlotte has more in common with her grandmother Diana. According to Marie Claire, Charlotte’s body language is very similar to Diana’s. This was especially exemplified when Charlotte attended a memorial service for Prince Philip alongside the rest of her family. Body language expert Judi James explained:

“Charlotte, looking touchingly like the queen when she was small, showed body language traits that are more like her Granny Diana. Like Diana, she gives the initial impression of shyness, but beneath that appears to be an outgoing, fun personality.”

James also said that at one point, Kate turned to her only daughter and said, “You can smile.” It seems that Charlotte exhibited nothing but proper behavior, and it’s clear that this was a very important day for the family. James said that the service “was probably the first big test for George and Charlotte in terms of appropriate royal behavior at a formal event with the world’s cameras watching.”

As Charlotte continues to grow, she is showing more of her personality and skills. The daughter of the Prince and Princess of Wales is adorable and very confident for a middle child. It’s clear that the little girl already has some great leadership qualities, especially based on how she seemingly runs her family's household. Her mother said she is "the one in charge" of their household, according to Samantha Burge, the wife of a Royal Marine commando who spent time with the Princess of Wales and spoke to People. She added:

“(The duchess said) they are both becoming really good friends, George and Charlotte."

Charlotte's big personality is complemented by her sweet older brother, Prince George, and her darling younger brother, Prince Louis. But while the young princess has shown that she is willing to defend her brothers, she has gotten into a handful of tiffs with them as well, most notably with George over which songs they want to listen to in the morning. Even royal children are just like us it seems.

Back in December 2021, William was featured on an episode of the “Time To Walk” podcast where he spoke about what life at the Wales home was really like. According to People Magazine, he has spent a lot of time diffusing arguments between his three kids about which song they want to listen to in the morning. Fortunately, the family came up with a solution to end the bickering.

As reported by People, William implemented a musical rota, alternating between which child gets to pick the song that is played each morning. This way, everyone will get to hear the type of music that they want to listen to; they just have to wait for their designated day.

Even though the Wales kids have argued in the past over which song they think deserves to be played that particular morning, William revealed that there is one song that always makes them happy and gets them dancing.

“One of the songs that the children are loving at the moment is Shakira’s ‘Waka Waka,’” he said. “There’s a lot of hip movements going along with a lot of dressing up.”

Charlotte, who has taken private ballet lessons, definitely approved of the song choice. William continued:

“Charlotte particularly is running around the kitchen, in her dresses and ballet stuff. She goes completely crazy with Louis following her around trying to do the same thing.”

In February 2019, Closer Weekly reported that "Charlotte is outgoing and oozes confidence," according to a royal insider. "Standing in front of hundreds of paparazzi doesn't faze her in the slightest. She actually enjoys being in the spotlight!" the insider added.

Even the Princess of Wales has admitted that her daughter is a one-of-a-kind girl. "Charlotte is cute but she's got a feisty side!" she said. Additionally, Charlotte has taken kindly to the royal lifestyle. "She's learned the royal wave and curtsy," Closer Weekly reported.

Author Kate Nicholl said, as stated by Closer Weekly, that William once joked, "'I think she's going to be trouble when she's older." Meanwhile, Kate has said: "It's very special having a little girl. I feel very, very lucky.'"

Although Princess Charlotte is surely taking wonderful qualities from both of the royals, she still has a little bit of her own unique spirit. In the summer of 2019, the little princess was spotted sticking her tongue out at the crowd at The King's Cup regatta.

According to Harper's Bazaar, Charlotte also caused quite a stir when she barred photographers from attending her little brother Prince Louis' christening. The little princess reportedly firmly stated, "you're not coming!"

Meanwhile, as Charlotte gets older, she is really growing into her looks. As is tradition, a portrait of the princess was released for her 6th birthday in 2021. Taken by her mother, who, the Observer reported, is often hailed as the "unofficial royal photographer," Charlotte looked truly radiant as she smiled brightly for the camera. She was beaming as she donned a blue floral dress with her hair falling over her shoulders.

At 6 years old at the time, the young princess looked quite grown up and was the spitting image of her father in the photo. The uncanny resemblance to William — from their eyes down to their smile — showed that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. We're sure Charlotte will take other great traits of her father along with his good looks.

Then in an Instagram post from May 1, 2022, the Prince and Princess of Wales posted a new photo taken by Kate herself ahead of Charlotte's 7th birthday. The caption read:

"Seven tomorrow! 🎂

The pair of photos featured Charlotte sitting in the grass surrounded by gorgeous purple flowers, smiling widely with the family's dog Orla, a black cocker spaniel. The young princess donned a white polka dot blouse under a periwinkle sweater and navy pants. The photos appeared spontaneous and documented the young royal having a sweet and relaxing time.

It's a wonder to witness the royal children growing up in front of our eyes and as the only daughter of the Wales family, it's very special to see how Charlotte is maturing into a sweet young girl.
