Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford & Other Supermodels Appeared On Magazine Cover But Fans Slammed It Due To ‘Ridiculous’ Photo Editing

Aug 15, 2023

Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford are two of the most legendary supermodels in the world of fashion, that’s why when they appeared together on a magazine cover alongside two other original supermodels, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington, fans were immediately sent into a frenzy.

However, not everyone was happy with the photoshoot, as some online users deemed it as heavily-photoshopped.

Before we dive into Campbell and Crawford’s iconic photoshoot along with Turlington and Evangelista, let’s take a look at their personal lives.

Campbell is one of the world's most beautiful women, and even though she is 53 years old in 2023, she's still incredibly gorgeous. Being one of the original five supermodels, her lifestyle for many years of her life included jet-setting around the world, attending fabulous parties, wearing gorgeous designer dresses, and being friends with a host of famous faces.

Born Naomi Elaine Campbell on May 22, 1970, in London, England, the supermodel’s debut in the entertainment industry was when she appeared in Bob Marley’s music video “Is This Love.” At the time, she was only 8 years old.

By 1986, she was discovered by Beth Boldt, the head of Synchro Model Agency, and since then, her modeling career has skyrocketed. Campbell was able to work with some of the most legendary designers like Azzedine Alaïa, Gianni Versace, Isaac Mizrahi and many more.

Aside from being a muse to some of the most luxurious brands in the world, she also appeared in major fashion magazines like Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, and the like.

Outside her professional work, Campbell is a mother of two children.

On the other hand, Crawford was born on Feb. 20, 1966, in DeKalb, Illinois. Similar to Campbell, the supermodel started her career at a young age.

Crawford was asked by local photographer Roger Legel for a photoshoot to be included in the DeKalb Nite Weekly. Since her photo received positive feedback from readers, she was convinced to take the path of modeling.

At the age of 17, she entered Elite Model Management’s Look of the Year contest and was able to reach the national finals.

Since then, Crawford’s career in the fashion industry didn’t stop, as she was able to walk some of the most iconic runways in the world. In addition, she also starred in several music videos for Jon Bon Jovi, Duran Duran, George Michael and many more.

In August 2023, American Vogue unveiled the official cover of their September issue, which featured four of the biggest supermodels in the industry: Campbell, Crawford, Turlington and Evangelista.

The September issue is important not just for Vogue but for the entire fashion publication industry as it is equivalent to a fresh start that defines all the fashion trends in the succeeding year.

In an Instagram post, Vogue wrote: “In the late ’80s to mid-’90s, high fashion went from a niche aspirational hobby to a pillar of mainstream entertainment — and at the center of this transformation were Christy, Naomi, Cindy, and Linda.”

Although many fans celebrated the cover as the legendary supermodels gathered together, there were some online users who expressed their dismay over the photoshoot as many of them deemed it as heavily-photoshopped or edited.

In the comment section, fans pointed out that the photoshoot was not consistent, as they alleged that the supermodels featured were photographed individually.

“The posing is weird. It’s like they all did their shoots individually and the shopped them together,” one wrote.

One pointed out that Vogue Magazine shouldn’t edit the photos heavily as the women on the cover have natural beauty.

“Y'all should have laid off the Photoshop. These women are beautiful without it,” one wrote.

Another one noted that the magazine’s creative vision wasn’t as great as their previous projects: “You have the best supermodels ever and this is what y’all came up with. I’m not a hater, but your recent creative vision sucks.”

One user expressed their disappointment due to the styling as they wrote, “This is a travesty, so many talent and you dress them like old ladies and make them pose with foil back round, i Can’t.”

One commenter suggested that the magazine should’ve released a non-edited photo to emphasize the beauty of aging.

“How about a non photoshopped version to show us that aging is beautiful? The level of photoshopping on this cover is a little ridiculous,” one wrote.

The reason why the four models were chosen for the cover is because of their documentary series titled “The Supermodels” which was set to be released in September 2023.

According to British Vogue, the Apple TV+ show will revolve around the careers of the four supermodels and their rise to fame in the 1980s. In addition, it would also talk about their personal lives.

“It’s about our life and times together: our friendship, careers, our womanhood, our motherhood,” Campbell said in a March 2022 interview with the publication.
