Morgan Freeman is one of Hollywood's greatest legends. He has been described as one of the most brilliant actors of his generation. Freeman is renowned for his deep and rich voice, which is distinctive and recognizable, and his regal carriage, often seen in the grand and gentlemanly roles he plays.
The actor first got exposed to acting when he was 12, but only as a punishment for pulling the chair of a girl he had a crush on. However, Freeman was impressed by his great performance in the school play. Thus, by the time he was 15, he had fallen in love with acting.
However, his journey to acting was not straightforward. Freeman first joined the US Air Force and rose to the rank of airman first class. The "Bruce Almighty" actor left the force in 1959 and started taking acting classes. Although Freeman experimented with dancing and acting, he realized that acting was what he wanted. He got his breakthrough role in 1987 when he starred in "Street Smart" as a vicious pimp.
Since then, Freeman has starred in many successful movies like "Million Dollar Baby," "Lean on Me," and "Red." The 86-year-old has also received several awards and nominations, including an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild Guild Award, and the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
On March 13, 2023, the "Angel Has Fallen" actor climbed the stage during the Oscars Awards ceremony sporting a bald head and a black glove on his left hand. Fans were surprised as he had just been seen not long before then wearing dreads. The excited fans turned to social media, wondering why he wore a glove and had a bald head. Freeman has been married twice. The "Lucy" actor was first married to Jeanette Adair Bradshaw from 1967 to 1979. They dated for five years and married when Freeman struggled to get established in the industry. However, things started looking up for the actor after he and Bradshaw said their vows. The couple divorced 12 years later for unspecified reasons.
After Freeman's marriage to Bradshaw ended, the actor married Myrna Colley-Lee in 1984, and the two were together for 25 years. Freeman's second wife loved dogs and wanted to keep them on the actor's property in Mississippi. However, Freeman believed in letting things roam freely. He did not want to keep dogs on the property because they always seemed to die early.
He told Esquire in 2012:
"Got no dogs. If a dog shows up, oh fine, that's fine, he can stay just as long as he wants to. But all a dog does around here is disappear, or end up where I find them out on the road. Or it might be coyotes. I don't seek out dogs. It would feel selfish if I did. There're just too many ways for a dog to meet its end out here."
In 2008, Freeman was involved in a car crash that left his left limb useless. The "Invictus" star broke his left arm and elbow in the crash. News reports showed that the car Morgan was in veered off the road and somersaulted several times. The car belonged to Demaris Meyer, who was in the car with him during the crash. First responders needed to use hydraulic cutters, known as jaws of life, to free the actor, who recovered soon after the incident.

Fans were surprised to see Freeman with a bald head and gloves on March 13, 2023, during the Oscar Awards ceremony. The actor debuted his new hairstyle when he went upstage with Margot Robbie to celebrate the 100th-year-anniversary of Warner Bros. Freeman remarkably looked good with his new hairstyle, and fans went on social media to rave about the new look.
Fans also noticed that Freeman had a black satin glove on one hand and wondered why. However, that was not the first time "The Shawshank Redemption" star wore gloves as he had a glove on during the 2018 SAG Awards and again at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony.
Freeman typically wears tan-colored compression gloves but opted for the black satin glove to match his black Oscars tuxedo. He told Esquire that they were compression gloves that he wears to keep the blood flowing in his left hand. Freeman's accident had left him with nerve damage on his left side. "It's the fibromyalgia up and down the arm. That's where it gets so bad. Excruciating," he explained at the time.
The consequence is that Freeman can no longer pilot helicopters, ride a ship, or drive manual cars like he used to. However, he now spends his time with his grandchildren and calls himself a doting grandfather. He also rides horses sometimes and plays golf with one hand.
Another hobby the movie veteran has picked up is bee-picking. According to Forbes, the naturalist converted his 124-acre ranch into a honeybee sanctuary to preserve bees. Freeman ventured into bee-keeping in 2014, importing 26 bee hives from Arkansas to his Mississippi ranch. He also planted bee-friendly trees. The father of four disclosed that he only feeds the bees and does not intend to harvest their honey.
