Mom With 3 Sets Of Twins Divulges Her Vital Tool To Raising A Large Brood

Aug 14, 2023

The reality of raising many kids is something multiple-birth parents can relate to globally. Whether there are resources or not, being a multiple-birth parent is, without a doubt, challenging. An Oregon couple, identified as Kathleen and Adam, opened up on how they welcomed their three sets of fraternal twins and how they have been navigating family life.

The couple made headlines when they shared their hack for handling their large brood on a daily basis during an August 2023 interview. Kathleen and Adam always dreamt of having a big family but were shocked when they welcomed their first set of twins, James and Julien, in 2016. The couple later learned that twins ran in Kathleen's lineage.

Two years later, in 2018, they welcomed their second set of twins, Mikey and Marie. The couple was willing to try for another baby after a few years but were once again shocked to find out they would have yet another set of fraternal twins. When she spoke to Today, Kathleen recalled how she reacted to learning about their fifth and sixth babies:

"When two sacs appeared on the ultrasound screen, I started shaking. I was in total shock even though my doctor warned me it would happen."

She recalled telling her husband about the babies, noting that he was "completely expressionless." Adam and his wife welcomed their babies, Leo and Luke, in 2021, making them a family of eight. All of Katleen's kids are still in their formative years, and she admitted to the hectic way of running her family. The mom, who was a kindergarten teacher, often documents their peculiar family life on her website, Half A Dozen Twins.

Kathleen revealed to the news outlet that the unexpected way her family expanded "was really hard. However, she devised ways to make daily living easier. The mom-of-six opened up about buying a robotic vacuum that cleans the house once her family retires for the night.

When the family visited restaurants, Kathleen and her spouse made it a thing to prepare the kids with what they could order beforehand. She would often provide each kid with two options to choose from. She added:

"Sometimes I'll have them decide when we're in the car so that as soon as we sit down at the table, everybody knows what they're having."

For the laundry, Kathleen shared that she used to put all their clothes in one laundry basket, but she discovered it made sorting cumbersome. Kathleen then resorted to providing one laundry basket for the kids sharing a room.

“I don’t even fold,” she explained. “I just make sure it’s right side out and put it in the drawer. I love folding, it’s very pretty, but I just don’t have the time.”

The mom, who has over 34,000 followers on Instagram, noted that the key to managing it all was being organized. She also pointed out to The Sun that she learned about "letting go of control." She spoke with Insider and shared how they managed home life during the summer holidays. The mom noted:

"With six children 7 years old and under, the summer holidays certainly keep me on my toes."

Kathleen revealed that she and her husband were a team and were "always on the same side." She added that they had roles, and being organized brought them closer. Kathleen stated, "We lean on each other because no one else knows what it's like to raise three sets of twins."
