Mom Splurged On $1,500 Procedure To Have Fake Dimples Stitched In Her Face

Jul 31, 2023

Boston native and mom-of-two Becky Tang fulfilled her lifelong dream of having perfect dimples with a plastic surgery procedure that cost her $1,500. Always enamored by the cute indentations, Tang had longed for dimples since she was a teenager. At that young age, she even tried piercing her cheeks in the hopes of getting the desired feature, but the effect was short-lived.

Years later, Tang came across a friend of a friend who had undergone a successful dimpleplasty and was inspired to revisit her aspiration. She found Kim Facial Plastic Surgery in Doraville, Georgia, which agreed to perform the procedure in January 2023.

The surgery to get her dimples done only took 20 minutes, during which the doctor used a quick stitch inside each cheek to pull in the cheek muscles, creating the dimples. After the procedure, Tang's dimples appeared deep, and her face was swollen. However, as the swelling subsided, she fell in love with the adorable beauty marks on her cheeks.

According to Bustle, a theory proposed in a 2008 study published in the American Journal of Physical Anthropology suggests that dimples could have evolved as a means of enhancing communication through facial expressions. According to this idea, dimples might make facial expressions more noticeable or provide additional information about the intensity of the emotions being conveyed.

Additionally, dimples could play a role in enhancing sexual attractiveness. This pair of beauty marks are commonly associated with youth and childhood, a trait highly valued in a society that places significant emphasis on youthfulness. In a culture focused on youthfulness and appearance, having dimples could be seen as an extra advantage for individuals seeking romantic connections, possibly influencing their appeal on dating platforms.

Unfortunately, like all good things, Tang's dimples faded over time, leaving her with just one dimple on her left side, visible only when she smiled. The doctor warned her about the possibility of the dimples fading, so Tang had somewhat prepared herself for this outcome.

“The doctor did say during the consultation that there is a small percentage of people where the dimples fade completely or they fade to the point where you only see them when they smile,” Tang said. “I happen to be one of the people where they have almost completely faded.”

All in all, Tang's stitched dimples lasted for about three or four months, and then the dimple marks became lighter and could only be visible when she smiled. Her family and friends initially thought that going through dimpleplasty was a little crazy, but they eventually found her dimples cute. However, she now works in a corporate job and is a mother, leading her to consider how this may impact her responsibilities if she gets the procedure again.

Admittedly, while Tang got some compliments for her cute dimples, some of her followers weren't as careful with their words. They judged her for wasting money, but Tang said she did not take any of the negative comments to heart.

Since sharing her experience, her video has gone viral with over 2.3 million views and more than 2,600 comments. Some of her followers also didn't realize that there was a plastic surgery procedure for having fake dimples.

“I'm happy to put it out there and talk and be informative to other people who could be interested in it,” Tang said.
