Mom Gives Birth To Baby Weighing Over 13 Pounds With Full Mane
Jul 18, 2023
Babies are often a delight to have. While some women have no intentions of having children for genuine reasons, many others want to have babies because of what it represents for them. Having children gives some a sense of completeness, while others think it would be great to have company in old age.
In some cultures, it is taboo for women to think they don't want to have children or remain childless. Hence, their women often try all they can to give birth to children or eventually adopt one. Conception is generally regarded as a gift worldwide, and celebrations sometimes take place to show the happiness of the couple and their family members.
When women get pregnant, they usually prepare to welcome the infant long before the due date. Part of the preparation includes going for regular ante-natal appointments to check the mother and baby's health. It also involves buying clothes and other items for the newborn. The delivery can happen in different ways, including cesarean sections, which can occur when there is a need for it.
When babies are born, they usually weigh 7 pounds, 6 ounces if male, and 7 pounds, 2 ounces if female. However, there have been deliveries that have seen babies weigh a lot more than the average weight for newborns, which can hamper the preparations their parents have made, including getting clothes for them.
Katey Taylor, a mom in Nashville, Tennessee, faced this ordeal when she delivered a baby weighing over 13 pounds at the Williamson Medical Center in Franklin on June 28, 2023. In addition to the weight, the newborn baby also had a head full of hair. The incident shocked everyone, and the mom spoke about it in an interview. Keep reading for details.

Katey Taylor delivered a big boy during her first pregnancy and wasn't expecting anything more than that. However, what happened with her second delivery shocked her and everyone around. Katey’s first son weighed over 9 pounds, but when she gave birth a second time, her baby weighed a whopping 13.2 pounds.
The baby, Leo Everett Taylor, was born with a head full of hair at the Williamson Medical Center in Franklin on June 28, 2023.
The hospital celebrated the baby's delivery a few days later and announced it via a Facebook post with a photograph of Leo taken by Kristie Lloyd.
"Coming in with a bang at 13.2 pounds, this firecracker is helping us celebrate 4th of July in our nursery! 🎆🎇" they wrote.
A more surprising fact is that Leo was born a week early. Katey told WSMV 4 Nashville in an interview:
"I'm getting used to it, but it's definitely hard cos he wants to be held all the time, so working on those muscles right now."
The mom also had trouble keeping up with her baby's feeding as he had a voracious appetite.
"He does eat around the clock. It's kind of hard to keep up for sure," she said.
Katey revealed that she had a planned cesarean section. She also disclosed that Leo didn't fit into newborn clothes, so her mother-in-law needed to bring some clothes from home for him. Leo was already wearing clothes for 3- to 6-month-old babies when they left the hospital. Thankfully, the baby's sugar levels were normal at birth.
Despite his size, Leo isn’t the biggest baby born in the world. That record belongs to Anna Bates’ baby boy, born in 1879, who weighed 22 pounds.
