Mom Enthuses Her Gratitude For The Friendship Between Her 6-Year-Old Son & His School Bus Driver

Jul 11, 2023

Life is about making a million seemingly small choices that will make a huge difference in the world; this difference may have a positive or negative impact depending on your choices. Several people often desire to make choices that will positively impact the world, but doing this requires intentional sacrifices. Unfortunately, not many people have it in them to make these sacrifices for the world's greater good.

As we navigate our way around the world, especially as adults, the burdens of life make us so engrossed that we forget that people have struggles. And that we can help alleviate their struggles by doing the bare minimum, even if we have our struggles too. But regardless of the weight of the world on the shoulders of grownups, some of them still show up to make a difference in the world.

Making a difference doesn't have to involve giant strides; it could be a seemingly insignificant action. After all, it takes a few grains of sand to make a pleasant land, so small actions like complimenting a person's outfit, lending a helping hand, and having friendly conversations with people, among others, could go a long way toward impacting their day.

Impacting people's lives is not limited to age groups; it doesn't have to be an adult-to-adult affair. Some interactions with kids may go a long way toward shaping their path in life. One such instance is the friendly bond between a Summerville, South Carolina-based bus driver, Charles Frierson, and a schoolboy, Kameron Isenberg. On June 21, 2023, Good Morning America shared Kameron's mom Kelly Isenberg's letter, showing her appreciation to the driver, who became her son’s friend and helped him transition easily into kindergarten.

To many, Frierson is the school bus driver for Cane Bay Elementary School, but for Kameron and his family, he has become a close family friend. And this bond formed when Frierson's friendliness toward the struggling kindergartener helped him navigate a difficult time at school.

To appreciate Frierson’s impact on her son's life, Isenberg wrote a letter eulogizing the driver to the Berkeley County School District. She also shared the letter with Good Morning America.

"I have always believed angels come when you least expect them. This holds especially true in regard to Mr. Charles, the bus driver of school bus #220 of Berkeley County, SC," Isenberg's letter read.

"Mr. Charles goes above and beyond every day for my son," the letter read. "From simple things such as them eating lunch or bringing my son his favorite ice cream for the two of them to eat together, extra treats being slipped into his backpack as he gets off the bus, to bigger things such as taking time out of his weekend to come to my son's baseball games."

In the letter, Isenberg provided more context, explaining that her son had difficulty transitioning into kindergarten, but improved positively due to Frierson's impact on his life.

And for Frierson, the friendship has meant just as much. In fact, he revealed that his becoming buddies with Kameron "means the world" to him.

"Sometimes you don't know what kids may be going through, and that 'Good morning. Have a good day. How you doing?' … that relationship and small communication with them makes a difference. So, that's what I enjoy doing," Frierson said.

The friendship between Frierson and Kameron is evident to all, as the kindergartener's special education teacher also commented on the incredibly loving connection between the driver and schoolboy duo.
