Model Refuses To Be Discouraged By People Who Attack Her Because Of Her Unibrow

Jun 16, 2023

A unibrow, also known as jacco brow or monobrow and medically known as Synophrys, is not a new concept. While it is not common to see it around in the West, several famous people have shown theirs off, including Frida Kahlo. Interestingly, in some parts of the world, having a unibrow is considered attractive and sometimes seen as an indication of good luck, purity, or virility. For instance, Tajikistan is known as the land where the unibrow reigns, and women go the extra mile to get one if they weren't born with it.

Although having a unibrow is not medically considered to be a defect, it is associated with the Cornelia De Lange syndrome. It could also signify the presence of an underlying disease, including Waardenburg syndrome, Patau syndrome, Gorlin syndrome (Basal Cell Nevus Syndrome), and ATRX syndrome. While the unibrow is common in Asian culture, it is considered an abnormality in America and Europe, and most people typically shave theirs off. Consequently, many people are not exposed to the condition and find the sight strange.

It is for this reason that a model known for challenging the status quo in fashion and beauty has come under hate from trolls who find her upsetting. Sophia Hadjipanteli is a Greek Cypriot model who flaunts her unibrow on social media. The 26-year-old opened up in a chat with a news outlet in June 2023 about how her activism has exposed her to vile messages from trolls daily on her social media. Sophia Hadjipanteli is famous for her unibrow which she flaunts at every opportunity. She is the founder of the #UnibrowMovement which preaches body positivity. However, not everyone is accepting of her unibrow, and Hadjipanteli gets trolled daily for it.

The model spoke with Daily Star in June 2023, where she recounted her experience with haters who want her to get rid of her unibrow because they don't like it. "People tell me to die so many times online, which is sad," she said. "I get hate comments every single day. I don’t even keep track of them anymore because I do believe they are just not used to seeing someone accept and flaunt something that they believe is 'textbook unattractive.'"

The London-based model opined that many of those who troll her are not as brave as she is because they prefer to follow the status quo in terms of beauty standards. However, she added that she is ready to fight now so that future generations won't have to do the same.

"I don’t do this for attention; I do this because I like how it looks," Hadjipanteli continued, insisting that no one has the right to make her become who she doesn't want to be and vice versa.

Meanwhile, Hadjipanteli, who was bullied in school because of her unibrow, says she is now immune to online trolls. She confessed that she keeps on flaunting her brows because she wants to annoy her detractors even more.

In a clip she posted to her Instagram, Hadjipanteli simply stared at the camera with her brows in clear view. The model also posted pictures from her time at the premiere of the movie, "Killers of the Flower Moon" at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, where she showed off her unibrow on the red carpet.
