Michelle Pfeiffer Paused Her Career After Starting A Family But Her Kids Told Her ‘To Go Back’ To Acting

Jun 23, 2023

Michelle Pfeiffer is an icon in the entertainment industry who only became established in the '80s and '90s as one of Hollywood's best actresses. Pfeiffer started her career in 1978 with a brief appearance in "Fantasy Island'' followed by minor roles on the small screen in series like "Delta House," "CHiPs" and "Enos." She transitioned to the big screen in 1980 when she appeared in the comedy "The Hollywood Knights," which was followed by "Falling in Love Again" and "Charlie Chan and the Curse of the Dragon Queen." However, her beauty was a disservice at the time as she got stuck playing bimbo roles and soon got tired of it.

Pfeiffer landed her first leading role in "Grease 2," but the film failed miserably and almost ended her acting career. Fortunately, after the producer for "Scarface," Martin Bregman insisted that she audition for the film, she got to play one of the leads. "Scarface" became a hit and helped redeem Pfeiffer's career. She quickly landed major roles in other successful movies, including "Batman Returns" where she starred as Catwoman in 1992. Her portrayal of Catwoman won over critics and fans who regard it as the greatest of all time. Pfeiffer rose to become one of the highest-paid actresses in the '90s, but around that time, she withdrew from the industry to raise her family.

At 65 with two children and a doting husband, Pfeiffer still looks incredibly young as fans remarked that she is as stunning as always. The "French Exit" actress was at Sephora on June 15, 2023, to launch her perfume line and decided to serve fans with natural-looking photos of herself on Instagram. Pfeiffer has been married twice. The "Avengers: Endgame" actress first tied the knot in 1981 with Peter Horton, who she met in one of her acting classes, but the two divorced in 1988. While Horton blamed the split on their careers, Pfeiffer believed that it was because she was too young, and also broke her rules about not dating a fellow actor. She got into a few more failed relationships afterward.

Pfeiffer always wanted to have a family, so when she was 33, she adopted a baby.

"I'd been really desperate to start a family for a long time. And then I was 33 and I just thought, 'You know, I don’t want to wait anymore,'" she told The Telegraph

Pfeiffer also admitted that her desire to have a family may have made her stay in the wrong relationships.

The actress met screenwriter David E. Kelley in 1993 on a blind date and started a romance. Two months later, she received the approval to adopt. However, that didn't faze the new couple; Pfeiffer & Kelley raised the baby together two months after meeting and are still going strong 30 years on. The "Mother!" actress said that Kelley's decision made her know he was the right choice. In her opinion, it separated the men from the boys. A year later, Pfeiffer and Kelley welcomed their son, John.

Meanwhile, the "Dangerous Liaisons" actress started to pull back from acting to stay with her young children. However, once her kids were grown, she started to miss it.

"I started to really yearn for the work and even my kids were saying, 'Mom, aren’t you going to go back to work?' Which kind of hurt my feelings," she told the Independent

Pfeiffer has since returned to work as an actress and launched her own perfume line. The brand, Henry Rose, named after her kids, Claudia Rose Kelley and John Henry Kelley, is marketed as a transparent perfume line. Pfeiffer said she created the brand after learning how toxic some fragrances could be.

Pfeiffer went to Sephora on June 15, 2023, for the perfume's debut and shared photos showing off her beauty on Instagram.

"While at @sephora 5th Ave for a our @henryrose debut I asked @lazaroestebanarias for a concealer recommendation. He grabbed my face and had his way with me and in all of three minutes created a miracle! I'm so grateful. Thank you, Laz for the great makeup tips!" she captioned the pictures, one of which showed the makeup artist working on her face.

Pfeiffer's post quickly amassed over 90,000 likes and multiple comments praising the actress's beauty.

"You look beautiful💗 I'm so glad that you haven't ruined your face like so many women in Hollywood have. The pressure must be intense. Stay a natural beauty😊" a follower lauded.

Another fan gushed: "You are an inspiration to all of us who grew up watching you on screen. A life lesson in grace, you grow more beautiful with age. Thank you for showing all of us who are coming right behind you how it's done. #goddess #thankyou."

A third follower also shared his admiration, as they wrote:

"You're so Young and beautiful...and also successful in business....touched by Stars.❤️❤️❤️❤️."

It’s incredible that Pfieffer continues to look stunning despite achieving so much in her career and starting a perfume line. Her teeming fans would undoubtedly be hoping for more pictures of her so they can gush on her ageless and unwavering beauty.
