Michael J. Fox Steps Out With Rarely-Seen Adult Twin Daughters & Wife Tracy Pollan

Jul 20, 2023

Michael J. Fox rose to fame following his iconic portrayal of Marty McFly in "Back To The Future." Since then, he has continued to soar higher in his craft as an actor. But even someone like Michael, who has earned the respect of the public, isn’t one to get away without hurtful words being said about him — not because he had done anything wrong but simply because of his condition. Thankfully, he has amazing children who always come to his defense.

Michael is a beloved actor who's been in the spotlight since the 1980s. Despite his tragic Parkinson's disease diagnosis in the early '90s, when he was only 29, Michael has had the support of his wife and fellow actress Tracy Pollan. Although the couple was faced with Michael's health diagnosis early in their relationship, they not only stuck it out together, but they have also proven just how loving and supportive a marriage can be in the face of major life struggles.

However, since both were in relationships at the time they first met, they wouldn't begin dating until later on. Michael and Pollan reunited on the set of their 1988 movie "Bright Lights, Big City," and finally, their love blossomed. They dated for just seven months before getting engaged on Dec. 26, 1987.

They were married the following year, on July 16, 1988, at the West Mountain Inn in Vermont.

The couple has four children – their eldest and only child Sam Fox; their twin daughters, Aquinnah and Schuyler Fox; and their youngest, Esme Fox. Michael has drawn strength from his children, which is why it was a magical moment for him when his twin daughters accompanied him and his wife at the 2023 Moving Image Awards at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York City. Michael received the devastating diagnosis that he had Parkinson's disease in 1991. He didn't go public with the news immediately and instead continued working throughout the '90s, appearing in another hit show, "Spin City." He detailed his grueling journey in the Apple TV+ documentary “Still,” released in May 2023.

Despite Michael’s condition, his children have always been there to support him through and through. It is simply touching to know how much of a support Pollan has been for Michael over the years, and undoubtedly their four beautiful children are as well. Both parents frequently post family pictures on their Instagram, including holidays overseas together, as well as local everyday things like going for walks.

In February 2023, Michael did not miss out on celebrating the birthday of his twin daughters Aquinnah and Schuyler – and yes, he made sure to share it on social media, where he let the whole world know how special his two daughters are to him.

Alongside photos of special moments with his two beautiful daughters, Michael wrote:

“Weeeeeeeeeeee! Happy Birthday Aquinnah and Schuyler, you guys live your best lives X 2! Love, Dood.”

Pollan, also a proud parent to their two daughters, also greeted them by sharing nostalgic photos as well as recent ones to mark the special day of the two people close to her heart whom she described as “beautiful humans.”

“Happy birthday to these two beautiful humans! I could not love you more and I hope you have a fantabulous day!” Pollan said.

The relationship between Michael and his family has grown strong throughout the years. He has attributed his wife and his children as the light that guides him through his battle with Parkinson's disease.

Asked who pulled him out of his sickness, Michael told Variety in an interview that it was his family who was responsible.

“I’m still happy to join the day and be a part of things,” he told the publication. “I just enjoy the little math problems of existence. I love waking up and figuring that stuff out and at the same time being with my family."

Michael’s optimism and gratefulness are something that, up until now, has powered him through his battle. At the Moving Image Awards at the Museum of the Moving Image in June 2023, Michael was awarded a lifetime achievement award from the prestigious institution.

Michael was accompanied on the red carpet by three of the most important women in his life – his wife Pollan and his 28-year-old twins, Aquinnah and Schuyler. Michael looked dashing in his black tuxedo, while Pollan looked resplendent in a single-shoulder paisley print dress. Like her mom, Aquinnah opted for a dark dress, while Schuyler radiated in a metallic suit. When Michael later took to the stage, he took the opportunity to share his love and appreciation for his beloved family.

"I have so many great things in my life, Tracy and Aquinnah and Schuyler, and Sam and Esmé who aren’t here. I don't know. I don't have a weepy, sad life. This thing happened, which really sucked, but it put me in a position to do other things that were effective and perhaps make things better. But what I like about sitting here tonight is it seems to be about acting and about film and I love acting and I love film,” Michael said in his moving acceptance speech.

Michael continued his speech by adding a stirring tribute to his wife, who has stood by his side for almost 40 years.

“Tracy has one of the most clear minds. I talk about it as it applies to the family in the film, but as an actor, always, like, I'll do something and she’ll go 'ehhh, well.' But then when she said, 'That was great,' my heart soared," he said.

Prior to giving his speech, Michael had been introduced onstage by legendary director Martin Scorsese, who called him a "wonderful and courageous human being." Scorsese’s wife, Helen Schermerhorn Morris, also has Parkinson’s. Scorsese went on to say:

“Michael was a powerhouse. He was made for movies. Further, he has a great genius for comedy.”

Scorsese then urged the audience to “look at Michael’s filmography, pay attention to the amount of work he’s done since his Parkinson’s diagnosis. And along the way, Michael not only started his foundation, which has raised so much money for research and raised just as much awareness, but he also became a real guiding light for so many others with Parkinson’s — that includes my wife, Helen. Michael, your support has meant the world to her and to me.”

In the three decades that Michael has battled Parkinson's disease, he has leaned on his family for support, and they have always been there. "My kids are adults now,” the “Doc Hollywood” star told People. “I never held back about my situation before, but now I really can speak plainly.” He added:

“I love being with my family. I love being with Tracy. I love that I don’t do a lot of useless stuff that I used to do, because I don’t have the energy or the time.”
