In the video, the 48-year-old actor, known for his role in The Departed, said he decided to switch up his diet after acquiring leaky gut syndrome, which the actor developed while filming Spenser Confidential, his most recent movie that came out on March 6. Leaky gut syndrome causes nutritional deficiencies and digestive problems according to VegNews.

During the shoot, the actor admitted to eating a diet of eight meals a day consisting mostly of different meats — pork, chicken, fish and steak. Occasionally, Wahlberg said he ate two steaks in one day.

“What you put in your body is going to dictate how you ultimately feel,” Wahlberg said in the video.

While Wahlberg is new to the plant-based diet, he is no stranger to plant-based foods. According to VegNews, Walberg and his brothers, Donnie and Paul, opened the burger chain Wahlburgers in 2018, which was one of the first restaurant chains to serve the vegan Impossible Burger.

“I found myself towards the end of the movie — six months — having a leaky gut, so I did just do a fast, a bone broth fast, and I’ve been eating plant-based for about three weeks now.” Wahlberg said.

Even if Wahlberg is transitioning from an eight-meal-a-day carnivore diet, he seemed to be enjoying the plant-based experience. “I got to tell you, I feel real good,” Wahlberg said.
