Mariah Carey Shares Sweet Photo With Her Daughter Monroe After Day Of Horseback Riding
Jul 14, 2023
Mariah Carey wears many hats; she is a singer, songwriter, actress, and record producer. What's more, she achieved legendary status in her craft. She is known for her signature use of the whistle register, melismatic singing style, and impressive five-octave vocal range. Carey rose to fame in 1990 with her self-titled debut album. Since then, she has achieved many accolades and awards, including being the first artist in history to have her first five singles reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The songs were "Hero," "Without You," "All I Want for Christmas is You," "Fantasy," and "Always Be My Baby."
Carey's foray into music started under the tutelage of her mother, Patricia, a classically trained opera singer. She started making demo tapes in high school, but it wasn't until she handed one of her tapes to Tommy Motolla, a Columbia Records executive, in 1988 that her hard work began to pay off. The Queen of Christmas went on to release her debut album under Motolla's guidance.
While signed to Columbia Records, Carey released some of her most popular albums, including her famous Christmas album in 1994 titled "Merry Christmas," which regains popularity yearly around the yuletide season. Over time, Carey's music experienced transformation, as did her personal life.
She became a mother in 2011 to fraternal twins Moroccan and Monroe. Being a mom is a big deal for the singer, as she had to unlearn the trauma from her childhood. Although she adopted a slightly strict parenting style, she still dotes on her kids, giving them the life she didn't have and spending time bonding with them. In an Instagram picture posted on July 13, 2023, Carey and her daughter Monroe spent some mother-daughter time at the stable, horseback riding.
Carey's relationship life has gone through as much transformation as her music. The songstress has walked down the aisle twice and walked out of both marriages. Carey's first marriage was to music executive Tommy Mottola. The former couple tied the knot on June 5, 1993, in an elaborate ceremony Inspired by Princess Diana's wedding ceremony. At the time of the wedding, the "Love Takes Time" singer was 23, while her husband, Mottola, was 44.
Carey and Mottola started their marital life in a custom-built mansion located on a 51-acre estate in Bedford, New York. The mansion's humongous size and its seclusion made her feel like she was imprisoned. The union between Carey and Mottola lasted five years until they split in 1998.
Although the singer rarely talks about her first marriage, her song "Honey," which saw a young girl held hostage in a mansion break free by jumping from the second floor into a pool below, symbolized her liberation from her marriage. In a chat with Meghan Markle on her Archetypes podcast, Carey revealed that she felt suffocated in her first marriage.
"In my first marriage, I was very much what's the word? I was kind of locked away and I was sort of given the rules and had to stick with them," she revealed.
Ten years after her first marriage ended, the 'Honey' singer walked down the aisle for the second time with comedian Nick Cannon. Three years into their union, the couple welcomed their fraternal twins, Moroccan and Monroe, on April 30, 2011. The marriage between Carey and Cannon ended after their divorce was finalized in 2016.

One thing Carey has done wholeheartedly since becoming a mother is spend time bonding with her kids. On July 12, 2023, the singer shared a carousel of pictures with her 12-year-old daughter Monroe on a mother-and-daughter day out.
The mother and daughter duo spent their day at the stables, horseback riding. What's more, Carey and Monroe also looked the part. In the first photo, the "Touch My Body" singer and her daughter held on to each other in a warm embrace. The singer donned a white Henley top over fitted slacks. She paired her look with a black visor and oversized sunglasses.
On the other hand, Monroe donned a graphic tee featuring the "Stranger Things" cast. She paired the shirt with bubblegum pink shorts. For the horse ride, Monroe's head was shielded by a black riding helmet. In the second photo, Monroe was captured alone, straddling a horse.
"Daytime excursion with DemTwins ❤️," Carey wrote in the caption.
Monroe is one-half of the fraternal twins Carey shares with her ex-husband Cannon. Since their divorce was finalized in 2016, the former lovebirds have been co-parenting their two kids. In a 2017 interview with ET, the singer talked about co-parenting with Cannon.
"He's a good guy," Carey said. "It's not that hard to make it work."
However, in January 2023, a source close to the singer told Radar Online that Carey was planning to petition for primary custody.
"The reality of the situation is that they are usually with Mariah anyway," the source said. "Nick doesn't see much of them," the source added.
The source implied that Cannon, who had just welcomed child number 12, was having a hard time juggling his work and spending time with his children. One can only wait to see what happens between Carey, Cannon, and their kids.
