Man Performs Romantic Songs To Girlfriend In Airport Before Proposing To Her
Apr 02, 2023
When you envision the plot of your favorite romantic comedy, does it include the classic romantic airport scene? Films such as “Casablanca,” “Sleepless in Seattle,” “Love Actually” and “The Wedding Singer” are just some of the many movies that show couples professing their love for one another in airports. While many couples can only dream of having a movie-like romance, one couple in Los Angeles, California, proved that this type of love really does exist.
Back in January 2014, Malia Farley received the surprise of a lifetime when her plane arrived at LAX. After walking through the airport to find her boyfriend, Austin James Dyche, she was taken aback to see several of their friends with him.
According to ABC News, Farley and Dyche were in a long-distance relationship prior to Farley moving to Monrovia, California, from Anaheim, California. In fact, out of the four and a half years the couple was together, they were long-distance for three and a half of those years!
It’s safe to say that Farley was over-the-moon when she saw her boyfriend waiting for her past baggage claim. But what the young woman didn’t know was that her partner had a plan up his sleeve that involved six of their closest friends: Ethan, Jake, Cameron, Evan, Justine and John.
When Farley finally made her way to Dyche, the latter had quite the surprise for her – a musical proposal! Proposing to someone in an airport is quite romantic as is, but Dyche went the extra mile by ensuring that the accompanying music highlighted his and Farley’s heartfelt relationship over the years. In February 2014, Dyche uploaded a video to his YouTube channel that showcased the proposal from Jan. 19, 2014. In the video’s description, he wrote:
“Throughout their relationship Austin had written 6 songs for her, in celebration of various occasions. For their proposal, a portion of each song (as well as the new one written for the ending) was performed by 6 of their good friends....”
Along with their six friends, a handful of other friends helped out behind the scenes, including Erick, Paul and Jimmy, who also did the editing.
In the video, Farley made her way through the airport and was serenaded by several friends with the songs Dyche had written. Some of the song titles included "The Distance,” "Happiness" and "Hey Malia (Touch the Sky).”
Finally, Farley made her way to Dyche, who politely took her bag from her before giving her a big hug. While singing a song with the lyrics “marry me,” Dyche picked Farley up and swung her around. As the song came to a close, Dyche got down on one knee and held out a ring box. Already crying, Farley happily said yes, cementing the couple’s engagement!
In the video’s description, Dyche thanked everyone who helped bring the proposal to life. The video garnered over 71,000 views and plenty of comments congratulating the couple. “True Romance still exists! ❤️️ thank you for posting!!!” one person wrote. Another person praised Dyche for his spectacular songs and said, “I never seen a marriage proposal as fascinating and romantic as this one!”
In October 2015, the couple uploaded a video announcing that they were celebrating one year of marriage. Based on Dyche’s Instagram, it looks like they’re still happily in love today!
