While modern society with big buildings and bustling cities is efficient and exciting, it can often feel empty and cold. By venturing outside of big cities, you can connect with the warmth and friendliness of small town America.
One of these warm and welcoming small towns is Rocky Point in North Carolina. This town may not have a big population but it sure has a big heart. Farris Leonard was traveling through this town when he decided to stop and grab a bite to eat at one of the local burger joints. He stopped at the Lanes Ferry Dock & Grill in Rocky Point, which is locally famous for their delicious home-cooked meals.
It is often crowded but Farris managed to come in before the dinner rush. He ordered a burger and just as he was about to chow down, he noticed an elderly man out of the corner of his eye. The old man was placing an order and gesturing towards the empty seat next to Farris. Farris was confused and but saved the seat for the elderly stranger.

Once the man sat down, he slide a handwritten note over the Farris. It was then that he realized how important this moment was. One of the employees came up to Farris and explained that the elderly man can only communicate with passing notes due to his speech and hearing problems.
They sat and passed notes as they enjoyed their delicious food. The 93 year old elderly man told Ferris about how he met John F. Kennedy and how he visited the deserts of Arizona in the 1940s and it was 120 degrees.
Finally, they finished eating and Ferris passed his last note thanking the man for his wonderful conversation. They hugged, took a picture, and went on their way. Farris shared the story on social media and mentioned that people should be more compassionate and friendly towards others.
Take Farris's guidance and be more open to being friendly with strangers, as it can make the world a better place! And don't forget to show this wonderful story to your friends and family to brighten their day :)
