King Charles Is ‘Workaholic’ And ‘Won’t Slow Down’ Amid Cancer Diagnosis, Royal Expert and Queen Camilla Claim
Jun 17, 2024
The last few years have been momentous for the British monarchy, culminating in the tragic passing of Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, on Sept. 8, 2022, at Balmoral Castle. It was a devastating day for the royal family as many members gathered to be by her side in her final moments.
That same day, Elizabeth’s eldest son, King Charles III, ascended the throne. One day later, he addressed the United Kingdom as its new monarch. And less than two years since, the royal family was again hit with tragic news when Buckingham Palace revealed Charles had been diagnosed with cancer on Feb. 5, 2024.
Charles’ personal life has been a hot topic for decades, particularly since his marriage to Princess Diana and subsequent divorce. However, he has worked hard to put his name in a good light, supporting several non-profit organizations. His efforts culminated in the tide of public favor turning his way in the years since he became king, leading to an outpouring of shock and devastation when news of his ill health became public.
Even as he receives treatment for his cancer, it seems like no illness can stop Charles from working to keep everything in place. From time to time, his wife, Queen Camilla, has stepped up her responsibilities to help the Royal Family as Charles works in the backseat.
Royal experts revealed that Camilla gave an important health update about Charles, reflecting the monarch’s work ethic amid his troubling condition. Keep reading to learn more about Charles and how he’s faring with his illness.
Aside from undergoing treatment for his cancer, many speculate that the silent family feud inside the Royal Family continues to take up Charles’ mind – specifically the one involving Prince Harry and Meghan.
Since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex relocated to the United States, their relationship with the Royal Family has been fractured. When Harry released his controversial memoir, “Spare,” he risked his relationship with his father, brother, stepmother, and sister-in-law even further.
However, Page Six reported that Charles had extended an olive branch to the Sussexes to foster a good relationship with his grandchildren – Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Insiders close to the monarch revealed to The Mirror that he has been “keener than ever” to focus on his family and his duties to “make up for lost time” after being instructed to keep his social engagements low.
Royal biographer Ingrid Seward, who authored the book “My Mother and I – The Inside Story of the King and Our Late Queen,” told the outlet that Charles’ family has always been important to him.
“He remembers his own somewhat fragmented childhood as his parents were always busy doing their duty. It is a great sadness to him he doesn’t see more of Archie and Lilibet,” she said. “That is why he will never break ties with Harry. He does not want a FaceTime relationship with his son’s children. He wants to know them and be involved with their lives while they are still young enough to be able to learn from his wisdom. His cancer has made it all the more poignant to him as he knows that he won’t be around for ever.”

Many were dismayed when Charles and Harry did not meet when the latter visited the United Kingdom in May 2024 to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.
During the anticipation of his return, many had theorized that Harry would finally have the chance again to meet with his father or even reconnect with his brother, Prince William, and his ailing sister-in-law, the cancer-stricken Kate.
However, due to Charles’ “full programme,” Harry and his father were unable to meet. This came after Harry had decided to stay in a hotel rather than at a royal residence for his brief visit to his homeland. British broadcaster Helena Chard said Harry’s refusal was “extraordinary behavior.”
After Harry’s successful yet short visit to the United Kingdom, he hopped on a plane to Nigeria to go on a special visit with his wife, Meghan. While the trip was tagged as personal, and they clarified that it was not made in the capacity of senior royal family members, the royal family’s perception of the trip differed.
Royal expert Tom Quinn told The Mirror that Prince William is “absolutely furious and determined to find a way to stop this happening in (the) future.”
“Charles is said to be angrier than anyone has ever seen him,” the expert added. “What’s really upset the applecart is the fact that the Nigerians treated Meghan and Harry as if they too thought this was an official tour – all the signs were there as the couple were greeted with dances, receptions, visits to schools and charities.”
According to Quinn, the couple’s trip included everything one would expect from an official royal visit.
“Meghan and Harry’s speeches and their whole attitude has been designed to give the impression that they are still fully paid-up royals and William and his father King Charles don’t like it one bit,” Quinn added.
In another statement to The Mirror, he also revealed that Charles and William allegedly have had “lengthy discussions about stripping Meghan and Harry of their royal titles.” But they’re “terrified this would backfire and make the situation worse.”
“The last thing they want is to give the renegade royals something else to complain about. William and his father know that even without their Royal titles Meghan and Harry would carry on travelling the world as if they were royals and most people in the world will still welcome them,” Quinn confirmed.
After the buzz Harry generated after their Nigeria trip, Charles frequently made his public presence known, attending several events despite being instructed to keep a low profile.
According to Sky News, Queen Camilla gave a significant health update about Charles during the second annual Queen’s Reading Room Festival at Hampton Court Palace in Surrey on June 15, 2024. Author Lee Child revealed that Camilla had told him that Charles is “doing fine except he won’t slow down and won’t do what he’s told.” He further noted that Charles sounds “like a typical husband.”
Royal expert Hilary Fordwich told Fox News she’s not surprised by Charles’ attitude.
“Given he had the longest wait in history as heir to the throne, given his age, as well as his current health crisis, he is poignantly aware that time is ticking,” Fordwich added. “He has been preparing for this role his entire life, being in line for the throne for 70 years. After waiting for so long, he has thrown himself into the job. He wants to make his mark. So all that downtime away from his people makes him anxious and agitated.”
Fordwich statements echoed royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams’ description of the King, who he described as a “workaholic.”
