Kelly Osbourne Admits She Went ‘Too Far’ On Her Unrecognizable Weight Loss Journey That Left Fans Confused

Sep 19, 2023

Kelly Osbourne, the daughter of Ozzy Osbourne and his wife Sharon Osbourne, has been in the public eye for two decades now — ever since the family had their own reality TV show "The Osbournes," which premiered back in 2002. Kelly was only 17 years old when the series began, so in many ways, she had to grow up in the spotlight.

It wasn't always easy since she experienced a lot of media criticism and scrutiny regarding her weight. Kelly has spoken candidly about the comments and the flak that she had endured when she was young. She even remembered being called “fat” and “ugly” almost her entire life. She told Shape in 2020 that this broke her heart and ruined her self-esteem.

After years of battling with diets and exercise plans, she decided that 2020 was going to be the year to turn things around. She documented her transformation on social media and revealed she had lost an incredible 85 pounds. Kelly commented openly about how she felt during and after the process and has relished the end result.

However, not all people can be pleased with the outcome of her weight loss journey. Many have slammed her for the rather unsafe way that she underwent just to achieve the body that she wanted.

Despite this, Kelly has been proud of her transformation, although she admits that she might have gone a little “too far” than what she intended. Read on to learn more about Kelly’s weight loss journey, which still didn’t seem to have pleased people on the internet.

Kelly's weight loss journey began years ago, but a major change occurred when she had gastric sleeve surgery a couple of years ago, which she first revealed on the "Hollywood Raw with Dax Holt and Adam Glyn" podcast in 2020. She said:

"All it does is change the shape of your stomach. I got that almost two years ago. I will never ever ever lie about it ever. It is the best thing I have ever done."

However, Kelly knows that weight loss is more than just a physical undertaking; it's a mental one, too. She's previously spoken about having to learn to love herself first. She once told Cosmopolitan Body:

"People think I lost weight and that's what made me happier. That's not true: I had to learn to love myself first. Losing weight was just one benefit of putting the hard work in and sorting myself out on the inside first through therapy."

Kelly reiterated this on the Hollywood Raw podcast. She said:

“The number one thing I had to do was get happy. I had to fix my head before I could fix my body. You can never go into this if you’re not in a good mindset.”

After she lost weight, Kelly even had guys from her past come and try their shot with her, but she wasn't having it. While on "The Talk" in 2020, she admitted she was "having fun" and that she even turned down seven guys in one day! She elaborated:

“You know what it was? It was all guys who I had shown interest in before, but had all made comments about — ‘She’s great, but she’s too fat’ or ‘She’s great, but’ — so it was all of those people that came back around. So I was like, no, no.”

Kelly has continued moving forward in her personal journey. In 2021, the Sun reported Kelly previously had surgery to help her lose 85 pounds. She went through more changes, as she welcomed her first child with boyfriend Sid Wilson in November 2022, according to Live Fox Now

On social media, people were shocked to see Kelly’s drastic transformation 10 months after giving birth. Commenting on a The Daily Mail post of Kelly on Facebook, people were confused at first who the woman in the picture was.

“I don’t think this is Kelly Osbourne at all, even with a lot of weight loss she looks totally different,” a user said. “This doesn't even look like Kelly!!!!! did she have plastic surgery??? I would swear this wasn't even her,” another echoed.

“Thank goodness for a caption because I didn't know who this woman was,” a third person commented. Another said, "Looks nothing like her."

Some fans were even saying that she looks like her mother, Sharon

“Absolutely gorgeous double of her mother now,” a fan said. “Looking more and more like her mother!” another raved. “Kelly looks so much like her mother now. Beautiful,” someone mused.

Kelly has dismissed comments about her getting surgery just to aid in her weight loss transformation, while her mother brushed off comments about her alleged use of the contentious drug Ozempic, which is a slimming injection for patients with Type 2 diabetes.

“People think that it's a way of cheating, because you didn't work out for three hours a day, or you don't have some brilliant new trainer so you're cheating,” she clarified exclusively to The Daily Mail. “It's not cheating.”

Although Kelly has not used Ozempic, she believes that she might have gone too far on her weight loss transformation.

In a conversation with "Vanderpump Rules" alum Scheana Shay on her podcast “Scheananigans,” Kelly talked about her transformation in detail. Scheana raved about Kelly and her incredible look.

"I mean, you have always looked great. But the hair, just everything..,” Scheana said, which Kelly gracefully accepted.

Kelly mentioned that she was on a “mission after having the baby to lose all (my) baby weight,”

“Then I was like, 'Well, I lost all the baby weight. Let's see how far I can go with it."'And then went a little too far,” she added.

Kelly also gushed about Rihanna, who has paved the way for pregnant mothers to wear clothes that weren’t traditionally worn by pregnant women.

“I can wear so many things that weren't considered appropriate before and then Rihanna changed it for everyone,” she said. “Also, it made me sad because I didn't get to show off my pregnancy belly because I literally was a f****** moose and it was embarrassing.”

Kelly also talked about the idea of having any cosmetic procedures in a discussion with The Daily Mail: “I've done Botox, that's it. 'It's weird, because now that I've lost weight, everybody is criticizing and trying to figure out what it is that I've done, and I really just lost weight. It's just the shape of my face!”

She also added: “And everyone knows that I had weight loss surgery, and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. But there's this whole thing about it, 'well you didn't do it the right way.' There is no right way.”
