Kelly Clarkson became a household name in 2002 following her win on the hit competition series “American Idol.” Since then, the singer has gone on to sell millions of copies of her albums and tours worldwide. Some of her most notable hits include “Since U Been Gone,” “My Life Would Suck Without You,” and “Because Of You.” With an incredible vocal tone and range, Clarkson has quickly become one of the world’s best and most recognizable singers.
Along with being a highly accomplished singer, Clarkson has also appeared in various films and TV shows and has become one of the most beloved women in the entertainment industry due to her hilarious personality and charming wit. She has gone on to become a judge for another singing competition series called “The Voice,” and is even the host of her talk show, “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”
When Clarkson first entered the music industry, she had a very girl-next-door look with a bit of an edge. Like most superstars, her look and style changed as the years progressed, and Clarkson discovered more sides of herself.
During her time in the spotlight, many people shared their opinions of Clarkson’s appearance, but Clarkson never let any mean comments bring her down. In fact, she’s been incredibly open and honest about her health journey and weight fluctuations over the years, showing that she is a beautiful woman both inside and out.
Clarkson is also a fan of changing up her hairstyle. When she debuted a new look to coincide with the start of the sixth season of her talk show, fans couldn’t stop raving about the fresh vibes she was rocking. Keep reading to learn more about Clarkson and see the hair transformation her fans love.
Clarkson was born in Fort Worth, Texas on Apr. 24, 1982. The hopeful singer found fame after auditioning for “American Idol” with the song “Express Yourself” by Madonna while wearing a handmade shirt that Clarkson had stitched together out of an old pair of jeans. After impressing judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson, she received a golden ticket, which gave her a pass to the next round of auditions in Hollywood.
Sure enough, Clarkson impressed the audience with her gorgeous vocals filled with emotions and power and went on to win the first season of “American Idol” in September 2002. In April 2003, the newly crowned “Idol” released her debut album titled “Thankful.” The album was full of pop, contemporary R&B, and gospel-inspired songs. Her lead single, “Miss Independent,” was written by Clarkson alongside Rhett Lawrence, Matt Morris, and music legend Christina Aguilera. The song became an international hit and earned Clarkson her very first Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
Throughout her many years in the spotlight, Clarkson has been known to change her sound and style. During this time, the topic of her weight was unwantedly discussed, as many people watched the then-20-year-old star win “American Idol” and grow up to be a gorgeous woman. It’s common for people’s weight to fluctuate over the years, as everyone has a different means of dealing with stress and figuring out what diet and exercise routine best fits their lifestyle. On top of this, Clarkson is also a mother of two children, which also impacted her weight.

No matter what size she is, Clarkson is not apologizing for how she looks. Over the years, Clarkson has been honest about her lifestyle change. Speaking with Glamour Magazine, Clarkson talked about the pressure to look a certain way in the music industry. “I felt more pressure from people actually when I was thin, when I was really thin, and not super healthy because I was just worn out,” she admitted. “It was more of magazines shoved in front of you and, ‘This is what you’re competing with and we’ve got to compete with it.’ I can’t compete with that.”
In 2024, Clarkson appeared to have slimmed down tremendously, prompting talk that she, like many other celebrities whose figures have undergone a relatively fast and drastic transformation, was taking the weight loss drug Ozempic. In May 2024, Clarkson went on the record on her talk show, “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” to clear the air. She revealed she was indeed taking a drug to supplement her weight loss but that it was not Ozempic.
“Mine is a different one than people assume, but I ended up having to do that, too, because my bloodwork got so bad. … Everybody thinks it’s Ozempic. It’s not,” she explained, adding that the drug she used was “something that aids in helping break down the sugar — obviously my body doesn’t do it right.”
“My doctor chased me for, like, two years, and I was like, ‘No, I’m afraid of it. I already have thyroid problems,’” she added.
However, Clarkson’s figure is not the only aspect of her looks that has garnered attention. In line with the start of the sixth season of her talk show, Clarkson debuted a new hairstyle that had people talking for all the right reasons.
A day before the first episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show’s” sixth season, Clarkson shared some behind-the-scenes clips of her and her team’s preparations. While discussing the show and getting prepped, Clarkson showed off her incredible weight loss in figure-hugging, high-waist, bell-bottom jeans and a black t-shirt, which she had worn tucked in. While fans gave the outfit a clear thumbs up in the comments, many were also equally ecstatic about the new look she was serving with her bangs growing out. Clarkson’s hair, a noticeably lighter chestnut shade, was worn in a ponytail while the soft bangs were split down the middle and swept to either side.
“I like your bangs like this,” one user commented, while another said, “The bangs are growing, thank god. Don’t let them touch your hair again.”
“Please don’t grow out your bangs! You look amazing with them! 🔥” a similar comment read, while another fan wrote, “Wow you look great 😍”
“Kelly in her *gorgeous* era 🔥🙌🏼💞” another comment read.
While praising Clarkson, one fan also offered the star some other style recommendations, saying:
“Love you hair pulled back , maybe you should cut it short and show off that new look . Hair is hiding you . Much respect Miss Clarkson.”
Clarkson debuted a full, straight fringe on her show just months earlier, and scores of fans lauded the bold new look.
“Kelly looks so good wearing those bangs! 😍” one user wrote, while another said, “Owh hello bangs ...❤❤❤ So 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Kelly in New York came out with the bang!!! She ain’t playing…”
