Kelly Clarkson Discloses Ex-Husband Brandon Blackstock’s ‘Red Flag’ After Learning What Push Gifts Are
Jun 26, 2023
Kelly Clarkson first became a household name in 2002 following her win on the hit competition series “American Idol.” Since then, the singer has sold millions of copies of her albums and toured across the world. Some of her most notable hits include “Since U Been Gone,” “My Life Would Suck Without You” and “Because Of You.” With an incredible vocal tone and range, Clarkson has easily become one of the best and most recognizable pop stars in the US.
Along with being a highly accomplished singer, Clarkson has also appeared in a variety of films and TV shows and has become one of the most beloved women in the entertainment industry due to her hilarious personality and charming wit. She was a judge for another singing competition series called “The Voice” and is even the host of her own talk show, “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”
With nearly two decades in the public eye, Clarkson’s personal life has been on full display. She famously wed Brandon Blackstock in 2013. Together they had two children, River, 9, and Remington, 7, as well as two older children from Blackstock’s previous marriage. In 2021, the two broke up and had a very public and controversial divorce marred with custody, property and alimony disagreements.
In a conversation on her show, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” on June 2023, the Emmy-winning host subtly exposed her ex-husband’s “red flag” after realizing how poorly she was treated when they were still together. Keep on reading to know more about Clarkson’s divorce and the alleged “red flag” about Blackstock during their marriage.
After a messy divorce with Blackstock, Clarkson has been enduring and braving the life of a solo parent to her two children, as well as the impacts of the divorce on herself. Clarkson was awarded primary custody of their kids, and in October 2021, she also won their $10.4 million Montana ranch, which was a big sticking point in the divorce proceedings.
As Clarkson went on with her life, she decided to channel the frustration into something more creative – her newest album, “Chemistry,” which chronicled the “highs and lows” of her divorce from Blackstock.
In an interview on "The Today Show" with Carson Daly and Hoda Kotb, the latter host tried to delve deeper into the meaning of the song “Red Flag Collector.”
“Sure, you can have the towels. You can take my money. Drag my name 'round town. I don't mind, I changed it anyway,” Clarkson sang.
Kotb admitted that as she went through the songs of the album, she realized something: "When a lot of relationships end there are lots of things that are fought over, and a lot of times it's money." Clarkson seemed to have agreed with her, as it was evidently shown in her songwriting.
On many occasions in the past, Clarkson subtly exposed her ex-husband’s “red flags” in a conversation with Priyanka Chopra and Carey Hart on her talk show. As they were discussing the meaning of “push gifts,” which were gifts that a husband gives to his wife after birth,” Clarkson seemed to be pretty shocked that such a thing existed.
"I didn't get a present. Whatever. That should have been a red flag,” she cheekily confessed. “I honestly don't know that he knew (what a push present was)."
Clarkson’s 10th studio album “Chemistry” was released on June 23, 2023.
