Keith Urban Shares Spotlight With Young Fan Who Left Crowd Speechless With Her Live Performance
Nov 29, 2022
Keith Urban has been making music for decades now. He has also worked with some of the best people in the music industry. So yes, he could definitely tell if a person has what it takes to make it big in the music scene.
Born in Whangarei, New Zealand to Bob and Marienne, Keith Lionel Urban is one of the most prolific country music artists in the world. At the young age of 2 years old, Urban and his family moved to Queensland, Australia, where he expressed an early interest in music a few years later.
His parents supported his early interest in the art form, and they even let him try the ukulele and play the guitar at 6 years old. Notably, his father, who owned a convenience store at the time, put up a poster to scour the neighborhood for a guitar teacher to help his son.
Urban was taught the specifics of the instrument, and he went on to enter local singing competitions and even partook in the local theater company.
Ultimately, Urban made it into the music business in Australia. In 1990, he released his self-titled album and became a backup act to Australian music icon Slim Dusty, which led him to Nashville and eventually, performing at the Grand Ole Opry.
Interestingly, his passion for singing country music is a reflection of the tastes of his parents who had helped him pursue his interest in music at a young age. This fueled Urban’s desire to push even further, so he formed the Australian-American trio The Ranch, but they eventually disbanded after releasing one album.
He then began his solo music career and released his first self-titled American album in 1999, which was certified platinum and birthed Urban's first No. 1 song on the Billboard Country charts.

Urban has been making waves internationally ever since he landed in Nashville, Tennessee in the early 1990s. Beloved for his music, he has also proven himself to be a kind and generous person who seems to always have a positive attitude, which has made him incredibly popular with his fans.
On top of his stellar music career, Urban is also married to iconic actress Nicole Kidman, making them one of Hollywood’s most beloved Australian couples.
The couple met at G'Day LA, which is an event to honor Australians living in Los Angeles. Their relationship began a few years after Kidman finalized her divorce from her ex-husband, Tom Cruise. Kidman and Urban were married in Sydney, Australia, where they currently reside. They also have homes in Los Angeles, New York City and Nashville, Tennessee.
But Urban sure knows if a person is talented when he sees them in person. That’s right — and proof of that was Urban’s interaction with two young fans during a show in Canada back in 2016. It was an amazing night for the country music artist who was performing for his fans in Edmonton, Canada when two sparkly guitar-shaped signs caught his attention in the middle of the crowd.
So, what Urban did was he invited the two sign-holders up on stage. To his surprise, they were two young girls. But they weren’t just friends who bonded at Keith Urban’s show — they were actually sisters.
Yes, they were lucky enough to meet Urban up close and join him on stage. But that wasn’t the best part of the night. Urban asked one-half of the siblings – Hailey Benedict – what she wanted to be when she got older. Of course, her answer made Urban happy because he himself is one — a singer-songwriter.

Seemingly proud of Benedict’s dream in life, Urban went on to tell the mother of the two girls that he supports them. “Mom, I will support that — a singer-songwriter!” Urban said.
Of course, Urban didn’t let them off the stage without asking the little girl if she had already tried writing her own songs. When she said yes, Urban asked her soon after if she knows how to play the guitar. After answering yes, Urban told the staff to bring on stage a guitar for her.
True enough, Benedict was a star in the making as she performed on stage an original song of hers called "Clean Slate" — and she did not disappoint the crowd in front of her. In fact, she appeared like a pro on stage, as if she had been doing it for a long time already.
Urban then gave Benedict a big hug after she finished performing. He couldn’t be more proud of her as he uploaded the video of the little girl’s performance on Facebook and YouTube, too.
Fans of Urban know too well that what he did that night wasn’t something new as he had previously done something similar in the past. You see, Urban doesn’t just want to have the spotlight all to himself — he also wants to share it with his fans.
Now, Benedict is officially a recording artist. She wrote on her Facebook:
“I have spent two amazing days recording my new single ‘Clean Slate.’ (This is the song I sang at the Keith Urban concert!). It has been such a fantastic experience and I can't wait to share it with you all!” she wrote at that time."
Since then, Benedict has released numerous hits including one of her songs "Wanted You To."
