Katey Sagal is famous for her incredible abilities as an actress, singer and songwriter. She has spent her career working on a number of projects, some even alongside her current husband, Kurt Sutter, who has also made a name for himself in the entertainment industry. Throughout her busy schedule, Sagal found time to settle down, get married and start a family. Some of her children have even expressed considering following in her footsteps as an entertainer.

Sagal was born Jan. 19, 1954, in Los Angeles, California. Her family was already well-known in the entertainment industry. Her mother, Sara Zwilling, was a singer, producer and television writer who went by the stage name Sara Macon. Sagal's father, Boris Sagal, was a television director. He immigrated from Ukraine to obtain a career in television. He has an astounding 100 credits as a director on a variety of projects, as well as credits as a writer and producer on a few others.

Sagal starred in the hit TV sitcom "Married… with Children" from 1987 until 1997, taking on the leading role of Peggy Bundy. Sagal's career continued with small roles in various shows and movies. In 2008, she got cast in "Sons of Anarchy," which was created in part by her husband. She worked on the series until 2014.

But unbeknownst to many, Sagal did not have it easy when she was still starting to have a family of her own. In fact, she struggled with pregnancy but is now living the life as she became a doting mother to her wonderful children. Keep on reading to learn more about Sagal, her struggles, and her beautiful family.

Growing up wasn't necessarily easy for Sagal; she explained in her memoir, "Grace Notes: My Recollections," that she battled an addiction to drugs and alcohol that she had endured for 15 years:

"When I was 12, we lived on the same block as Judy Garland, [and] her daughter Lorna Luft and I became neighborhood buddies. Lorna's mom had a lot of pills on her bedside table and slept past noon, just like my mom. We hung tight, and of course, I thought everyone's mom took a lot of pills."

While promoting her book, Sagal openly and extensively opened up about suffering from a stillbirth in 1991.

"It was a very difficult thing. I lost a child at almost eight months and... I could not wrap my brain around it," she said in a statement to The View, as quoted by The Daily Mail

Sagal was devastated upon learning about the saddening experience, and she even went on to blame herself for it, despite assurances from her doctors that it wasn't her fault.

"This is what they say about stillbirth, that 60 percent of it is God's will and there's no medical reason - and that's what I was told. And I just couldn't let go of the control of somehow, [the notion that] I had done something wrong," she recalled being told.

In the course of her life, Sagal has been married thrice. She married Freddy Beckmeier in 1977 and divorced in 1981; she married Jack White in 1993 and divorced in 2000. In 2004, she tied the knot with "Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter

Sagal's stillbirth was a result of her pregnancy with Beckmeier in 1991. A year after her marriage with White, she gave birth to her eldest, Sarah Grace, who has followed her mother on the same track as a budding singer/songwriter.

Two years after, Sagal and White had Jackson White, who also followed in his mom's footsteps as an actor. He is best known for his role as Stephen in "Tell Me Lies."

However, in 2000, Sagal and White divorced, and she found love in Sutter in 2004. However, Sutter wasn't interested in having more children aside from being a stepfather to her two kids.

"But he'd never had his own biological children, so about five years into the relationship we started toying with the idea of maybe we should raise a child together. At this point, I was too old to carry a child. So at first, we explored adoption, but that proved to be way more difficult than I expected," she told People Magazine, as quoted by HuffPost

The couple had Esme Louise via surrogacy in 2007.

"Being a mother has been my greatest teacher and also the most self-sacrificing thing I've ever done. I've never loved anybody the way I love my children," she told CNN in an interview in 2009.

When she was asked Sagal if she had been different after having children, she had this to say: "Well, I've always been a maternal type, but yes, everything was different once I had kids. Your whole perspective on the world changes. I love how I wasn't so self-obsessed anymore!"

Sagal has clearly embraced motherhood as she frequently posts her children on her social media accounts. On May 2023, she greeted herself with a Happy Mother's Day by posting nostalgic photos of her children.
