Kate Middleton Wows In Bubblegum Princess Outfit As She Keeps Sweet Promise She Made To Little Girl

May 28, 2021

Kate Middleton has shown herself to be someone who always keeps promises. In a beautiful gesture, Kate visited Mila Sneddon, a five-year-old girl who was overjoyed to meet Kate on May 27, 2021. Mila was featured in Kate's book, “Hold Still: A Portrait of Our Nation in 2020." Both Mila and Kate had a conversation over the phone in August 2020, during which time Kate made a promise to the sweet young girl that she fulfilled when she met Mila in person.

The coronavirus pandemic has been something people all over the world have been dealing with for well over a year. With lockdown restrictions and stay-at-home orders continuing to be put in place, lifted and then reimposed, many people have had to adjust their everyday routine time and again. Kate decided to do something to document this new way of life and encouraged folks in the United Kingdom to share photographs of how their days looked.

Moved by all the entries she received, Kate wanted to share the photographs with more people and foster a sense of community during this difficult time. She came up with the brilliant idea of releasing a picture book to showcase what life was like in the U.K. during 2020.

Kate’s book was released on Friday, May 7, 2021, and was met with a lot of positivity around the world. News outlets reported that Kate also added a beautiful personal touch to the books she had left as part of her treasure hunt — a sweet, handwritten message from the duchess herself. Needless to say, her book has been warmly received.

Harper's Bazaar reported that during the first coronavirus lockdown in the United Kingdom in 2020, Kate encouraged others to share their everyday experiences through a series of images. She launched a campaign to help capture what life was like for people across the U.K. as everyone worked to get adjusted to their new lifestyles in lockdown. The campaign was a sheer success, and Kate decided to do something with all the cherished photos she received in the process.

She set out to construct a book full consisting of 100 of the most “poignant” portraits from the 31,000 entrants she received, according to Daily Star. “Hold Still: A Portrait of Our Nation in 2020” perfectly depicts what life was like for people as they laughed, struggled and adjusted to their changing pandemic routines.

Mila and her family were some of the people who were severely impacted by the pandemic in the UK. Mila's photo was titled "Shielding Mila," and showed the little girl waving to her dad from the other side of a window. Because Mila was receiving chemotherapy for acute lymphoblastic leukemia, PEOPLE reported that the family had to make the tough decision of isolating themselves in two different houses to protect the young girl.

Mila stayed with her mother Lynda and had to isolate away from Mila's father, Scott, and big sister, Jodi. After Mila's poignant photo was submitted, Kate called up the little girl and had a conversation with her. During that time, Kate came to know that Mila's favorite color is pink and promised her that when they do meet, she will wear a pink dress for her.

True to her word, Kate wore a stunning color block dress that was sugar pink/bubblegum for her meeting with Mila and her family at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.

PEOPLE reported that Kate said during their August 2020 phone conversation, "I have to make sure I go and try to find myself a pink dress," adding, "Hopefully, when one day, hopefully, Mila, we'll get to meet, and then I'll remember to wear my pink dress for you." Mila had been excited by the prospect, and photos of their meeting show a happy Mila with her family as they met Kate at the palace.

Mila also wore a light pink dress herself, which she paired with an adorable faux tiara. Upon meeting, Kate told her, "I want to give you a big, squeezy cuddle." She also added, "I love your dress. Can you give it a twirl?"

Kate also spoke to the family about the photo and learned that the family has reunited and is living together again. During the meeting, Kate also thanked the family for submitting the photo. "I'm very grateful," the duchess said. "And also for sharing such a personal time. You know, it'll be an image that is part of a national archive, and you know, it tells a story of this particular time and a very personal story too, so thank you so much for sharing it."

It is clear why Kate is one of the most beloved royals today. This is certainly a day that Mila will remember for the rest of her life.
