Kate Middleton Shines As Rugby Patron And Gets Tossed Around By Players

Aug 23, 2022

Every time Kate Middleton steps out for a royal engagement or to help those in need, she proves time and again why she is highly adored and respected for her smarts and kind demeanor. Being part of the royal family comes with a lot of greatness — not to mention fame — but also a lot of responsibilities. However, Kate has also shown that despite her title as Duchess of Cambridge, she is just as down-to-earth and personable as anyone else.

It's no surprise that caring for others – especially the younger generation – is something incredibly important to Kate since she herself is a mother of three children. Since her marriage to Prince William in 2011, the Duchess of Cambridge has undertaken a long list of royal duties and responsibilities; she is even a patron to over 20 charitable and military organizations. Much of her charity work has continued to focus on issues surrounding young children.

On top of all of the wonderful attributes that Kate has shown time and again, she has also proven to be a great face for royalty. It's clear that Kate loves being a member of the royal family and that she enjoys the duties and responsibilities she has as a royal.

Since Prince Harry is no longer a part of the royal family, his royal duties need to be fulfilled by other members of the royal family. In a tweet on Feb. 2, 2022, Kate announced that she would take over the role as patron of the UK's Rugby League and England's Rugby team. This was the first time a royal had been officially appointed to take over one of Harry's previous duties since Megxit.

Ever since Harry and Meghan Markle chose to leave their roles as working royals back in March 2020, tensions have been high among the royal family. The controversial decision made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to leave has been dubbed "Megxit" and has garnered them a lot of negative press over the years.

This was further exacerbated after the couple sat down for a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, where they openly criticized the royal family and their culture. Among the many topics discussed, the Sussexes spoke of racist comments that were made before the birth of their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, cleared up rumors that had been circulating about in-fighting in the royal family, and spoke on the fact that they were cut off financially, requiring them to fund their own security for the safety of their family. This is what led to them signing major deals with Spotify and Netflix.

Because part of being a royal involves being a “working member” of the royal family, it's no surprise that in the March 2021 interview between Harry, Meghan and Oprah Winfrey, one of the major topics of discussion was their choice to leave the royal family as working royals. The work royals do often involves going on tours, being patrons to certain funds and initiatives, and doing other public outings and charity work.

Now that Harry is no longer a working royal, other royal family members will have to take over his old positions and duties, such as his brother’s wife, Kate.

One of Harry's old patronages was for UK Rugby and the English Rugby team. According to People, Kate was the first in the royal family to be officially handed over one of Harry's old royal responsibilities.

As an official announcement of her new job, Kate took to the Kensington Royal Twitter account to post a video to share the news. The tweet read:

"I am so thrilled to become Patron of the @TheRFL and @EnglandRugby 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏉

Two fantastic organisations who are committed to harnessing the power that sport can have in bringing communities together and helping individuals flourish."

Among fans, Kate is highly adored and respected for her impeccable sense of style, her smarts and her kind demeanor, as well as her people skills in public. For the Duchess of Cambridge, being a people person is what really makes her heart soar, so it's no surprise that she's delighted to take on the patronage. "One of the privileges of being in the family and having the job that I do is that you end up meeting a lot of people," she told Giovanna Fletcher, according to Express. "Talking to a lot of people from all walks of life."

Back in February 2020, Kate spoke with Fletcher on the "Happy Mum, Happy Baby" podcast about some of her favorite perks and privileges as an active member of the royal family. Kate does her part to carry out several royal duties by engaging in charitable organizations while also taking on new roles and responsibilities, and the rugby patronage is no exception.

While Kate has taken over as the royal rugby patron, it’s clear that fans admire her sportsmanship and work ethic. Several photos and videos of the Duchess of Cambridge actively enjoying her time out on the field have made their way around the world – and royal fans simply cannot get enough of seeing Kate be so sporty yet regal at the same time!

In February 2022, Kate shared a message on Instagram that was the same one she had posted on Twitter about becoming the patron for the organization. Even though the post is not new, fans are still leaving comments on it, praising Kate for her great work.

The Duchess of Cambridge also shared another behind-the-scenes video of herself gracing the field on her new territory. Some snapshots even showed her being tossed around by the rugby players as everyone appeared to have an absolute blast together. In the caption, she wrote:

“Home of @englandrugby! Fantastic to meet the players, staff and referees representing the sport at the highest level. Even put the 👟 on to get a taste of how the teams train. Wishing both teams the best of luck in their upcoming tournaments! 🏉🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿”

Again, many people left positive comments, sending Kate well wishes as she embarked on taking over Harry’s former role. One person commented, “An incredible person - she will make the perfect queen standing next to William one day in the future ❣️❣️❣️”

Another person said, “She is so beautiful and has such an awesome personality. She doesn’t mind doing anything and always has fun. She will do great at this pleasure.” A third person wrote, “She’s the best!!! 🙌❤️”
